Far Isles Medieval Society
Guild of Armourers
Rules of Advancement
Membership of the Guild of Armourers is only available to members of The Far Isles Medieval Society. However, the Guildmaster
(armour@farisles.org.uk) welcomes communications from anyone interested in the armour and weapons of the period 500 to 1603 AD.
Member
You must have expressed an interest in the Guild and informed the Guildmaster, preferably in writing, of your wish to join the Guild. (If you have included "Armouring" in your list of interests on the membership form, that is sufficient.)
Apprentice
You must produce a basic piece of armour.
Journeyman
You must produce five basic pieces of armour or weaponry including a helm and a shield.
Master
To demonstrate master status you must produce two major pieces of armour and a masterpiece. Suitable pieces are items like a hauberk of mail or an articulating leg harness. The masterpiece should be a piece of armour or weaponry produced by an authentic method and to a high standard, for example a raised helm or forged sword.
This document is based on the Rules of Advancement published March 1994.
The new Guildmaster, Robert fitz John, believes this to be the current version of the Rules.
