Beale £5 Note

Until 1945, the Bank of England's white notes were printed on sheets of hand-made paper. These sheets were sized to allow two notes to be printed side by side and then cut in half. This left each note with one cut edge and three deckled edges. From 1945, white £5 notes (the only denomination white notes made after this time) were printed on larger sheets of machine-made paper and have four cut edges.
