William Howard [Parents] was born 1 on 29 Nov 1873 in Bisley, Surrey. He died 2 on 29 Sep 1940 in 10 Warren Road, Guildford. He was buried in Brookwood Cemetery. He married 3 Lily Maud Stanley on 24 Oct 1910 in Holy Trinity Church, Knaphill.

In 1873, the building of the Severn Tunnel was started and the County Cricket Championship was initiated; Henry and Hannah's fourth child, William Howard, was born on 29th November.

The sandy soils of the Woking heathland are, when properly dressed, exceptionally well suited to gardening and, from the 1760s, nursery gardens had been founded in Goldsworth and Knaphill by the Turner, Waterer and Jackman families. In 1891 William, aged 17, was a nursery labourer. He is later described as a "domestic gardener" and a "jobbing gardener". For a time he was employed by the London Necropolis and National Mausoleum Company as a gardener in Brookwood Cemetery.

On 24th October 1910, William Howard married Lily Maud Stanley in Knaphill's Holy Trinity Church. They were living at the time in Chobham Road, Knaphill, but moved soon after to 2, Chestnut Villas, Brookwood, which in subsequent renumbering schemes became firstly 171 and then 201 Connaught Road.
William and Lily had seven children. The eldest, George William, was born on 4th March 1912

William Howard, still residing at 171 Connaught Road, died at Guildford on 29th September 1940, of uraconia and cystitis. He was buried in the non-conformist section, (as a Presbyterian), of Brookwood Cemetery, (Woking Ground, Plot 114, no. 202500).

Lily Maud Stanley [Parents] was born 1 on 27 Oct 1886 in Bodicote, Oxfordshire. She was christened 2 on 26 Mar 1887 in St John The Baptist Church, Bodicote, Oxfordshire. She died 3 on 8 Jun 1975 in Ottershaw Isolation Hospital. She was buried in Brookwood Cemetery. She married 4 William Howard on 24 Oct 1910 in Holy Trinity Church, Knaphill.

Lily Maud who was born on 27th October 1886, the year the Severn Tunnel was opened and Gladstone introduced the Bill for Home Rule in Ireland. After leaving school she went into service at Wimbledon.

On 24th October 1910, William Howard married Lily Maud Stanley in Knaphill's Holy Trinity Church. They were living at the time in Chobham Road, Knaphill, but moved soon after to 2, Chestnut Villas, Brookwood

After William's death, Lily lived another 35 years at Brookwood before dying, from a cerebral thrombosis, on 8th June 1975 at Ottershaw Isolation Hospital. She was buried with William at Brookwood Cemetery (Woking Ground, Plot 114, no. 226035).

  F v Ruth Howard was born on 2 Aug 1917. She died on 24 Feb 1994 in Woking, Surrey.

Ruth Howard was born on 2nd August 1917.

When she left school, she was a children's nanny for the wife of Fulk, the butcher, in Brookwood.

She spent most of her adult life as a patient at Brookwood Hospital, after being first admitted in 1950. Ruth died on 24th February 1994.

Harry Frederick Frost [Parents] was born 1 on 27 Nov 1887 in Charlton. He died 2 on 1 Mar 1944 in The Goods Yard, Woking Railway Station. He was buried in Brookwood Cemetery. He married 3 Ida Maria Daisy Parratt on 1 Jun 1914 in St Peter's Church, Wrecclesham.

Harry Frederick Frost was born, at 6 Frederick Place, Charlton, in 1887. In this year Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee and Edison & Swan started to produce electric lamps.

In 1914 he married Ida Maria Daisy Parratt, at Wrecclesham. Harry and Ida moved to Vale Farm Road in Woking and had a further five children.

In 1938, Harry, Ida and family moved to 18, Coniston Road, Old Woking. Harry worked as a shunter for Southern Railways. He collapsed and died from a coronary thrombosis, in the goods yard of Woking Railway station on 1st March 1944, aged 56. Ida had died five years earlier and Harry was buried with her at Brookwood Cemetery (Woking Ground Plot 43).

Ida Maria Daisy Parratt [Parents] was born 1 on 20 Sep 1885 in Wrecclesham, Surrey. She died 2 on 17 Jun 1939 in Woking & District Hospital. She was buried in Brookwood Cemetery. She married 3 Harry Frederick Frost on 1 Jun 1914 in St Peter's Church, Wrecclesham.

Ida Maria Daisy was born on 20th September 1885, the year General Gordon was killed at Khartoum and Gilbert & Sullivan put on "The Mikado" in London.

After leaving school she went into service in London. whilst working in service at Clapham, Ida had had one illegitimate daughter, Iris Christina (known as "Daisy").

On 1st June 1914, Harry Frederick Frost and Ida Maria Daisy Parratt were married at Wrecclesham. Harry and Ida moved to Vale Farm Road in Woking and had a further five children.

In 1939, whilst residing at 18 Coniston Road, Old Woking, Ida suffered a cardiac failure and died in Woking & District Hospital. She was buried in Brookwood cemetery (Woking Ground, Plot 43, no. 201626).

  M iii Raymond William Frost was born on 16 Apr 1923. He died on 10 Dec 1989.

1923 was the year that Bolton Wanderers won the first FA Cup Final to be played at Wembley Stadium and “Yes, we have no bananas” was a hit song. Raymond William Frost was born on 16th April.

During WW II, Raymond, having failed the medical for active service, worked in a munitions factory near Croydon, returning home at weekends. After the war, he worked as a gardener for Surrey County Council.

Raymond was living at Wisley in 1989 when he died, on 10th December.

Henry Howard [Parents] was born in Bisley, Surrey. He was christened on 2 Apr 1837 in St John The Baptist Church, Bisley, Surrey. He married 1 Hannah Glazier on 3 Sep 1865 in St Michael's Church, Stockwell.

Henry was James' fourth son. He was born in 1837, the year that William IV died and Victoria ascended the throne.

In 1865, Henry was living at 8, Ingleton street, Stockwell, and on 3rd September that year he married Hannah Glazier, in St Michael's church. Hannah, daughter of Ann, had been born in Egham in 1838, but resident in Bisley since about 1843. Henry and Hannah returned to Bisley where their eldest child of six, Henry, was born in 1866. Henry and Hannah's other children were Emma, born in 1869, who died aged six, Stephen, born in 1871, William, 1873, Elizabeth, 1876 and James, 1878. James died the following year.

In 1871 Henry was a "garden labourer" and he and his family were living in a cottage in Port Lane, Bisley - was this cottage the 'house' of ten years earlier, inherited from his father? In 1891 Henry was a "gardener and attendant" at Brookwood Hospital.

Hannah Glazier [Parents] was born 1 in 1838 in Egham, Surrey. She was christened 2 on 21 Dec 1856 in Bisley, Surrey. She died 3 on 18 Mar 1916 in 2 Chestnut Villas, Brookwood. The cause of death was Acute Bronchitis (5 days), Dilated Heart Syncopha. She was buried 4 on 23 Mar 1916 in Brookwood Cemetery. She married 5 Henry Howard on 3 Sep 1865 in St Michael's Church, Stockwell.

Hannah, illegitimate daughter of Ann, was born in Egham in 1838, but resident in Bisley from about 1843.

On 3rd September 1865, Hannah married Henry Howard (of Bisley), in St Michael's church, Stockwell. They both gave their address as 8, Ingleton street, Stockwell, Henry and Hannah returned to Bisley where their eldest child of six, Henry, was born in 1866.

George William Stanley was the eldest child of William and Elizabeth. He was born, in Drayton nr Banbury, in 1858, the year the British Raj started in India and the SS Great Eastern was launched.

George married Alice Boffin, daughter of William and Charlotte, in December 1879, in Bodicote church. It was probably a 'shotgun' wedding as Alice was just 17 at the time and their first child, James Thomas Stanley was born only eight months later. They had two other sons before Alice died at the tender age of 21. Their youngest son, John Henry, served in the Great War with the Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry and Royal Berkshire regiments.

In February 1886, George married again, also in Bodicote church. His bride this time was Mary Anne Butler, daughter of John and Ann Maria, who had been in service in London.

George and Mary had eight children - the eldest was Lily Maud who was born on 27th October 1886.

In 1891, George senior was working as a stoker at the local gasworks. He and Mary were living in Bodicote, in a cottage near the Vicarage. George died in June 1910, just four months before his daughter Lily’s marriage.

WW I served as Private with the Oxford & Bucks. Light Infantry [no. 18863] & 2nd Bn., Royal Munster Fusiliers [no. 20202]. Awarded Military Medal, Victory medal, British medal and 15 Star, Killed in action November 1918, probably of wounds received in the Battle of the Sambre - which took place on 4th November during the Allies final advance in Picardy.

George William Howard [Parents] was born on 4 Mar 1912. He died 1 on 15 Apr 1965 in St Thomas' Hospital, Lambeth. He married 2 Annie McMurray on 7 Sep 1940 in St. Dunstans Catholic Church, White Rose Lane, Woking..

George William, was born on 4th March 1912, the year that the "Titanic" sank and F W Woolworth's was founded.
George had a number of jobs, never staying in one for very long. Before the War, he was in service as a driver when he had a near-fatal accident, from which he fortunately made a full recovery.
In September 1940 he married Annie McMurray at St. Dunstan's Church, Woking. At time of marriage was a furnisher's van driver, living at 171 Connaught Road, Brookwood.

George and Annie had two daughters, Janet Helen, born in 1941, and Elizabeth Anne, born 1943.
After the War, George had a variety of driving jobs including: bus driver, delivery driver and driving instructor.
George died of cancer on 15th April 1965, in St Thomas' Hospital in London after a long period of illness. The funeral ceremony was held at St Mary's church Byfleet followed by a cremation at Woking Crematorium. Anne died in 1993 and is buried in Chobham Cemetery.

James Howard [Parents] was christened 1 on 1 Aug 1798 in St John The Baptist Church, Bisley, Surrey. He died 2 on 20 Dec 1874 in Brookwood Asylum. The cause of death was Old age. He was buried 3 on 27 Dec 1874 in St John The Baptist Church, Bisley, Surrey. He married Elizabeth Walden on 29 May 1822 in St Mary's Church, Horsell, Surrey.

James was born in 1798, the same year that Nelson destroyed the French fleet in the Battle of The Nile.
In May 1822, aged 24, he married Elizabeth, daughter of John and Ann Walden. Originally from Stoke-next-Guildford, she was then resident in Horsell and they were married in St Mary's parish church. Horsell is a parish and village one mile North of Woking station. The church of St Mary the Virgin is a stone building erected in the time of Edward the First. It has an embattled tower containing six bells and a clock. The church has been much restored by the late Victorians.

James and Elizabeth had ten children, two of whom died in infancy.

James seems to have lived his whole live in Bisley. From 1829 he is recorded in the church-warden's accounts as paying church rates of 6d per year (reduced to 4½d per year in 1832); As the rate was 8 pence in the pound, James held land valued at 15/-. Parish records and census returns from 1837 to 1865 describe James as "labourer" or "agricultural labourer", living alongside what is now the main Guildford-Bagshot road. In 1861 they were living in a house in Portlane, Bisley. 1846 Tithe Map & Award shows James owning a house and garden (plot 249 on map) measuring 2 roods 18 perch, (2816 square yards), with a total rent of 4/- per year. This house appears on the 1895 and 1915 OS maps as "Bedford Cottages".

On 10th June 1866 Elizabeth died. James, soon after, was moved into the Surrey County Asylum for Pauper Lunatics, latterly known as Brookwood Hospital, which had opened in 1867. He died here of 'old age' on 20th December 1874, aged 77. James and Elizabeth were both buried at Bisley church.

Elizabeth Walden [Parents] was born in Stoke-Next-Guildford. She was christened 1 on 11 Dec 1803 in St John The Evangelist Church, Stoke-Next-Guildford. She died 2 on 10 Jun 1866 in Bisley, Surrey. The cause of death was Disease of the brain. She was buried 3 on 15 Jun 1866 in St John The Baptist Church, Bisley, Surrey. She married James Howard on 29 May 1822 in St Mary's Church, Horsell, Surrey.

Elizabeth, daughter of John and Ann Walden, was baptised in 1803 at St John the Evangelist Church, Stoke-next-Guildford.

In 1822, she was resident in Horsell when she married James Howard in St Mary's parish church.

James and Elizabeth had ten children, two of whom died in infancy. In 1861 they were living in a house in Portlane, Bisley, near to The Fox public house.

On 10th June 1866 Elizabeth died, of a paralytic stroke, aged 63. James and Elizabeth were both buried at Bisley church.
