 | Red Arrows INVITED TO SALUTE OLYMPIC FLAME
The Red Arrows
will
be performing a flypast when the Olympic flame is brought into the UK
in April. Details provided by the Reds' local newspaper indicate that
the aerobatic team will stage a brief show in celebration of the
Olympic flame being brought into the country. The flame is to be
welcomed in London on April 6, as part of the global Olympic Torch
Relay in the run-up to the Beijing Olympic Games.
Currently,
the team are unsure at what point they will perform the flypast but say
it will definitely happen while the UK plays host to the flame.
As expected, this will add further speculation as to whether
or not the team will be performing at the opening of the 2012 Olympics
in London - regular visitors will be all to aware of a certain
tabloid's story that the Red Arrows had been banned from performing at
the London Olympics in 2012 as they were too 'British'. For
more information on that story (which continues to reach new online
audiences and blogs), read our 2012
Olympics page.
Rumours of the team's ban
at the 2012 Olympics were denied by the team spokesman, Rachael
Huxford, who said there had been no discussion at all. She
explained: "We are doing the flypast when the flame is brought into the
country but as far as the actual Olympics go, it is much too soon for
us to say if we will be there or not - 2012 is a very long way off."
