CARD NINE
Card formation is one shape that
the Red Arrows don't tend to use very often. Consisting of a
3x3 square, the formation is particularly difficult to fly, and doesn't
come naturally in many of the Reds' displays - there's no easy way of
changing to Card formation from another shape. It's usually
flown in a loop, since barrel-rolling such a formation would be
particularly difficult, and wouldn't look very attractive either.
The Reds flew this formation in 1998, starting in Card Nine
in a loop, and then splitting into two halves during the downswing of
the maneouvre.
