BIG BATTLE / BIG NINE

The largest and widest formation flown by the Red Arrows, Big Battle (previously known as Battle, or historically as Big Nine) us usually seen in displays as the opening formation.  Changing formation from any of the other team's shapes into Big Battle is a lengthy process, with Reds 6-9 having to move outwards and backwards to achieve the correct shape.

As a result, Big Battle is usually only used right at the start of the display, and has been followed by changes into Nine Arrow and then Swan (2001), or Diamond (2006).  Although I didn't personally get to see it, I understand that Big Battle was used halfway through the 2005 full display, where the team used it to change into Short Diamond during a loop.
