APOLLO

Named after NASA's series of spacecraft, Apollo is one of the oldest formations flown by the team, and one of the most regularly used.  One of the tight formations with the Hawk aircraft only six feet apart, it often appears in displays due to its flexibility, as it can be used as to change from Diamond to Typhoon, or to Eagle.

In 2005, for the first time, the formation was rolled.  Prior to this, Apollo was generally used in bends and quarter-clovers, demonstrating the Red Arrows' ability to fly close formation shapes through high-g maneouvres.  A short and compact formation like Apollo isn't usually rolled as it doesn't often 'look' good from the ground; however it still shows excellent precision aerobatic flying.
