One
of the many small outposts up in the hills above Phaphos. These outpost's
where situated near a confrontation point between the Turkish and Greek
Cypriots. These outpost's where normally all makeshift, as nothing was
allowed to be a permanent fixture. They where rat holes even when they
where based at a police station like the one at Kophinou, which was
halfway between Limassol and Nicosia, we where not allowed to use the
buildings. The only decent base was the one above Limassol at Polemedhia
Dam, which had been built for Lord Kitchener at the time of the Gallipoli
campaign, here was based the Pompadours HQ Company. The MT platoon had
the old Sergeants mess as they had built a new one lower down the hill.
The only good thing about it was that it was dry, clean and a wonderful
view of Limassol |
