At Carsington at least 1 Great Northern Diver still present off Stones Island this morning. At Cotmanhay the Bittern still showing well on the W side of the Erewash Canal S of the Bridge Inn. At Arnfield Reservoir a Firecrest in conifers at the sluice end in the nature reserve section late morning. At Long Eaton GP a fem Red-breasted Merganser on the fishing pit, also a Green Sandpiper on the new workings and 2 Egyptian Geese. At Cromford 8 Hawfinch between the bridge and the Railway Station. At Shipley Park the Short-eared Owl still over rough grassland by the American Adventure Park this evening. At Swarkestone 4 Egyptian Geese with 93 Mute Swans in fields E of Swarkestone Bridge and 4 Ravens between Swarkestone and Barrow-upon-Trent. At Butterley Reservoir 8 Gadwall, 58 Tufted Ducks, 13 Pochard, 19 Wigeon and 2 Siskins over. At Foremark Reservoir 2 ad Caspian Gulls and ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost. At Willington GP 2 Pintail early morning. At Aston-on-Trent GP (no general access, view only from gate by A50) 5 Smew visible from the gate this morning.
6th February

At Shipley Park the Short-eared Owl still over rough grassland by the American Adventure Park this evening. At Cromford up to 8 Hawfinch mobile between the rugby pitch and Willersley Castle. At Butterley Reservoir 36 Wigeon equalling the site record for this species.
5th February
At Cotmanhay the Bittern seen again in flight along the Erewash Canal this evening. At Shipley Park the Short-eared Owl still over rough grassland by the American Adventure Park. At Wyver Lane 20+ Goosanders this evening. At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull and ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost again late afternoon.

At Willington GP a Marsh Harrier from the 2nd viewing platform at 14.10 hrs, also Shelduck and 4 Goosander there. At Shipley Park the Short-eared Owl still over rough grassland by the American Adventure Park. At Ambaston GP the drake Red-crested Pochard still present. At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull and ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost again late afternoon, also ad Yellow-legged Gull.

At Long Eaton GP a Ruddy Shelduck on the Windsurfing Pit. At Matlock Forest 20 Crossbills at Bottom Moor Plantation. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans. At Butterley Reservoir a total of c.350 Pinkfeet flew W between 0950-1000, also 8 Gadwall, 29 Wigeon, 10 Pochard, 70 Tufted Ducks, 155 Coot and a single Goldcrest.

At Cotmanhay a Bittern on the Erewash Canal behind the Bridge Inn at approx SK 468440. At Carsington at least 1 Great Northern Diver off Stones Island. At Cromford 3 Hawfinch present on the hillside by Willersley Castle. At Longshaw 7 Bramblings. At Foremark Reservoir the ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost again.
31st January
At Carsington 2 Black-throated Divers present briefly mid-morning, no sign later but up to 3 Great Northern there during the afternoon. At Ambaston GP the drake Red-crested Pochard still present. At Shipley CP the Short-eared Owl still present in fields by the American Adventure Park late afternoon. At Cromford 2+ Hawfinch present by the entrance to Willersley Castle. At Matlock Forest 35+ Crossbills at Bottom Moor Plantation, also a few Bramblings there and 2+ Crossbills on Flash Lane. Nearby at least 4 Bramblings alongside Screetham Lane. At Butterley Reservoir 10 Pochard, 8 Gadwall, 25 Wigeon, 63 Tufted Ducks, 2 Great Crested Grebes, 77 Fieldfares flew W, 3 Skylarks flew W and 69 Herring Gulls flew NE and a Water Rail showing well. At Ogston c130 Pinkfeet flew W around midday and presumably the same seen heading W over Matlock shortly afterwards. At Bradley Pond 120 Mandarins.
30th January
At Swarkestone Lake the drake Smew still present. At Ambaston GP a drake Red-crested Pochard. At Shipley CP the Short-eared Owl still present in fields by the American Adventure Park early morning, also 7 Goosanders on the lake. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans and a Pink-foot. At Cromford 3 Hawfinch on the hillside by Willersley Castle mid morning. At Willington GP the Bittern still present, also a report of a Marsh Harrier early afternoon, 16 Goosanders, Oystercatcher several Curlews and a Pink-foot with the Greylags. At Foremark Reservoir the ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost again, also 2ndW Glaucous Gull and Caspian Gull. At Longshaw at least 1 Mealy Redpoll still present on the feeders also 4 Bramblings. At Butterley Reservoir 10 Pochard, 8 Gadwall, 33 Wigeon, 41 Tufted Ducks, 2 Great Crested Grebes and 75 Greenfinches leaving the roost. At Long Eaton GP 2 Egyptian Geese and 5 Goosanders.

At Cromford 4 Hawfinch from the bridge this morning and 7 in trees on the hillside at Willersley Castle early afternoon. In Matlock Forest 15 Crossbills on Flash Lane. At Longshaw 11 Bramblings under the feeders. At Foremark Reservoir ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost. At Carsington from Sheepwash Hide the 1stW fem Scaup, 13 Goldeneye, 2 Peregrine, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Buzzard, Redshank and Tree Sparrows, also a Kittiwake present during the morning. At Wyver Lane 17 Goosander at 16.30 hrs, 2 Shoveler, 33 Wigeon and 17 Teal. At Butterley Reservoir 61 Tufted Ducks, 10 Pochard, 8 Gadwall, 31 Wigeon, 4 Common Buzzards and 100+ Greenfinches came in to roost.
27th January
At Swarkestone Lake the drake Smew still present. At Longshaw a Common (Mealy) Redpoll on feeders with Lesser Redpolls again this afternoon. At Ogston an ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost.

At Long Eaton GP 2 Egyptian Geese, 3 Goosanders, a Green Sandpiper and a Peregrine over. At Wyver Lane 44 Wigeon, 10 Goosanders, 4 Shoveler, 563 Black-headed Gulls, 3 Stock Doves, Little Grebe, Snipe, Mistle Thrush singing, Green Woodpecker, 3 Reed Bunting, female Sparrowhawk and 9 Lesser Redpoll. At Foremark Reservoir an ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost. At Butterley Reservoir a Brambling roosting with Greenfinches again.
25th January

At Swarkestone Lake a drake Smew. At Cromford 2 Hawfinch. At Pebley still 15+ Corn Buntings with large mixed flock Yellowhammers & Linnets etc in stubble S of the road between Pebley Pond and the Pebley public house. At Breck Farm floods a Pink-footed Goose with c110 Greylags, also a Bar-headed Goose and several Bar-headed X Greylag hybrids there. At Foremark ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost. At Shipley Park a Short-eared Owl hunting over fields by the American Adventure park. At Carsington the Great Northern Diver still present. At Matlock Forest at least 12 Crossbills still present on Flash Lane. At Linacre Reservoirs 3 Goosanders on the bottom lake. At Butterley Reservoir 2 Greylags flew W, 92 Fieldfares flew W, 2 Goosanders, 1 Raven flew W, and a total of 12 Skylarks over, also 8 Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 61 Tufted Ducks and 8 Pochard.
23rd January
At Willington GP a Ruff on the Canal Scrape briefly this morning then flew towards the new workings with Lapwings. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans. At Cromford a Hawfinch in treetops on the hillside in Willersley Castle grounds. At Ogston a 1stW Glaucous Gull this afternoon until 16.40 hrs when flew off towards Carsington. At Foremark the 2ndW Glaucous Gull present again this afternoon. At Longshaw the 2 Common (Mealy) Redpolls still by the car park this morning also 2 Brambling there. At Long Eaton GP the fem Red-breasted Merganser still present on the first pit on the left along Pasture Lane. At Kedleston Park the Pink-footed Goose still present with 100+ Greylags opposite the Hall. At Butterley Reservoir 8 Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 4 Pochard and 24 Canada Geese Also a Redpoll and at least 133 Greenfinches leaving a roost.

21st January
At Ambaston 4 Whooper Swans 750M east of the village, viewed from the riverside footpath. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans. At Foremark Reservoir a 2ndW Glaucous Gull which flew off SW, also 2 ad Caspian Gulls and 10 Yellow-legged Gulls in the roost. At Butterley Reservoir 2 ad White-fronted Geese circled the reservoir then flew off SW at 10.10 - 10.15 hrs, also 8 Gadwall, 14 Wigeon, 54 Tufted Ducks, 3 Pochard and 1 Great Crested Grebe. In Matlock Forest 25 Crossbills at Flash Lane. At Ramsley/Leash Fen a ringtail Hen Harrier late afternoon.
20th January
At Swarkestone 7 Bewick's Swans from Lowes Lane, viewed from just N of the canal bridge. At Long Eaton GP a fem Red-breasted Merganser on the first pit left of Pasture Lane. At Cromford Wharf a Hawfinch in the car park. At Foremark Reservoir a juv/1stW Glaucous Gull in the roost. At Church Wilne Reservoir (permit only) 3 drake Smew on the ski-pit until midday when they flew towards St Chad's Water. Nearby the Bewick's Swan still in fields by the River Derwent from Wilne Lane. At Butterley Reservoir 6 Gadwall,5 Wigeon and 17 Bullfinch. At Loscoe Dam 11 Goosanders (5 drakes). At Carsington a Great Northern Diver at Millfields, the fem Scaup still present, a Peregrine and 2 Ravens.
19th January
At Swarkestone still 7 Bewick's Swans and 1 Whooper Swan by the River Trent SE of the village, approx 0.5 mile E of the church. At Carr Vale a fem Merlin, also a Pink-foot with 19 Greylags (a very good number for this site), 135 Wigeon and 2 Water Rails. At Longshaw the 2 Mealy Redpolls still visiting feeders by the cafe, also 7+ Bramblings there. At Wyver Lane 2 fem Goldeneye (rare here the last record being in Nov 2006), 3 Gadwall, 5 Goosander, 5 Pochard, 10 Tufted Ducks, 42 Teal, 75 Canada Geese, 460 Black-headed Gulls, 5 Stock Doves and 8 Lapwings. At Butterley Reservoir 6 Greylag Geese flew SE.
18th January
At Willington GP the Bittern still present. At Swarkestone still 7 Bewick's Swans and 1 Whooper Swan by the River Trent SE of the village, approx 0.5 mile E of the church. At Foremark Reservoir a drake Red-breasted Merganser, 49 Goosanders and later ad Caspian Gull, 12 Yellow-legged Gulls and a juv Glaucous X Herring Gull hybrid. At Straws Bridge a drake Goosander. At Butterley Reservoir a fem Goosander for a few minutes then flew NE, also 44 Tufted Ducks, 3 Pochards and 166 Coots. At Carsington juv Great Northern Diver in Millfields Bay and Little Egret from the Wildlife Centre.
17th January
At Willington GP a Bittern on the Canal Pit mid-morning then flew onto the main DWT reserve. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans, a Pink-footed Goose and Egyptian Geese . At Swarkestone 7 Bewick's Swans and 1 Whooper Swan in fields from Lowes Lane. At Carsington the fem Scaup still present in Millfields Bay. At Matlock Forest 18+ Crossbills on Flash Lane and 38+ Crossbills at Bottom Moor Plantation. At Williamthorpe drake Goldeneye, drake Shoveler, 17 Pochard, 34 Tufted Ducks, 37 Teal and fem Goosander. At Longshaw 2 Mealy Redpolls still present with 12 Lesser Redpolls. At Ogston the ad Glaucous Gull present early morning, 4+ Goosanders, 41+ Skylarks over and an ad Iceland Gull in the roost. At Aston-on-Trent GP (no general access view only from gate by A50) 8 Smew. At Butterley Reservoir the drake Shoveler still present, also a Teal, 4 Gadwall, 3 Pochard, 53 Tufteds, 1 Great Crested Grebe and 5 Skylarks over.
16th January
At Ogston a drake Pintail present early morning only, also 16 Goldeneye, 2+ Goosanders, 9 Grey Partridge, fem Stonechat still present and later an ad Glaucous Gull in the roost. At Long Eaton GP ad Yellow-legged Gull present late morning, also a Green Sandpiper and 11 Goosanders. At Butterley Reservoir a drake Shoveler, 7 Teal, 3 Wigeon, 45 Tufted Ducks, 3 Pochard, 1 Great Crested Grebe and 4 Gadwall. At Newhall a male Hen Harrier behind the Concrete factory this evening. At Carr Vale the 90 Pink-feet still present this morning until disturbed by the local shoot. Also 155 Wigeon, 40 Teal, 35 Stock Doves and 16 Lesser Redpoll. At Swarkestone 7 Bewick's Swans from Lowes Lane approx 150m NE of the canal bridge.

At Carsington the fem Scaup still present, also a Little Egret, a fem Pintail, Yellow-legged Gull, c40 Siskin, Raven, 7 Goldeneye, 3 Redshank, 2 Snipe, 6 Bullfinch and 2 Grey Heron. At Kedleston Park a Pink-footed Goose with Greylags near the Golf Club. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans and a Pink-footed Goose. At Weston-on-Trent the 5 Bewick's Swans still viewable distantly from canal towpath. 11th January
At Swarkestone 2 Whooper Swans and 1 Bewick's Swan with Mute Swans viewed from Lowes Lane approx SK 368294. At Risley a report of a possible Rough-legged Buzzard seen from the A52 800 mts W of Risley bridge. At Weston-on-Trent 5 Bewick's Swans viewable distantly from canal towpath.
10th January
Between Ambaston and Shardlow the 4 Whooper Swans still present with Mute Swans on the River Derwent. At Butterley Reservoir a Jack Snipe, a Common Snipe, 7 Teal, Water Rail, 28 Tufted Ducks, 3 Pochard, 2 Great Crested Grebes and 6 Common Gulls. At Drakelow WR (permit only) the Bittern seen briefly again. At Sawley a Bittern on Triangle Pond (an area with no general access). At Carsington the 1stW fem Scaup still present but no sign of any Great Northern Divers today. At Swarkestone 2 Whooper Swans with Mute Swans viewed from Lowes Lane approx SK 368294.
9th January
At Carr Vale the 90 Pink-feet still present in a field SW of the reserve and another c150 flew W at 09.30 hrs. Between Ambaston and Shardlow the 4 Whooper Swans still present with Mute Swans on the River Derwent. By Wilne Lane the ad Bewick's Swan still present on the River Derwent also the Pink-foot still there. At Sawley 200 Pinkfeet flew over at 10.50 hrs. At Cromford 6 Hawfinch by the entrance to Willersley Castle. At Staunton Harold Reservoir a 2ndW Yellow-legged Gull, Raven, 110 Great Crested Grebes, 275 Wigeon, 8 Goldeneye, a Barnacle Goose and a Bar-headed Goose. At Drakelow WR (permit only) 4 Smew (1 drake), 16 Mandarins, and a Pintail.
8th January
At Willington GP at least 1 Bittern still present and 35 Pinkfeet flew W. At Carr Vale 90 Pink-feet landed at 1050 and were still present at 12.20 hrs, also c100 flew east at 11.10. hrs. Also 65 Pied Wagtails left the sewage works to roost north of here, still 140+ Wigeon and a Water Rail but no sign of the Bittern for the last two days. At Foremark Reservoir 2 ad Caspian Gulls in the roost,also 6 Yellow-legged Gulls. At Cromford a Hawfinch by the entrance to Willersley Castle. Between Ambaston and Shardlow 4 Whooper Swans with Mute Swans by the River Derwent this afternoon. At Whitwell Quarry 15 Whooper Swans flew E at 09.30 and a Common (Mealy) Redpoll there.
7th January
At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull and an ad Caspian Gull in the roost. At Markeaton Park 5 Goosanders at the northern end of the lake.
6th January
At Church Wilne Reservoir (permit only) a 1stW drake Scaup and nearby the Pink-footed Goose still present in fields alongside Wilne Lane but no sign of the Bewick's Swan today. At Carsington the juv Great Northern Diver still present off Stones Island, also Yellow-legged Gull from Sheepwash Hide. At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull and 8 Yellow-legged Gulls in the roost. At Drakelow WR (permit only) the Bittern still present. At Carr Vale the Bittern walked across the ice at 10.55 hrs and then in full view from 15.05 to 16.20 hrs. At Butterley Reservoir a Brambling roosting with Greenfinches, most of the reservoir frozen but good numbers of Coot, 3 Pochard, 26 Tufted Ducks and only 1 Great Crested Grebe on the remaining ice free areas.
5th January
At Carr Vale the Bittern still present and showing well on the ice at noon but later seen heading S over Meadow Flash. Also a fem Goosander there. At Long Eaton a Bittern flew over Fields Farm Road this morning and nearby at Long Eaton GP a Jack Snipe on the first pit on the left along Pasture Lane. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans and a Pink-footed Goose. At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull in the roost again. At Buttrley Reservoir the Chiffchaff still present.

At Ogston a Red Kite drifted E between 11.20 and 11.30 hrs, also fem Stonechat and both Aythya hybrids still present, and nearby 200+ Pink-feet W over Brackenfield mid-morning and c90 Golden Plover SW over Stretton. At Willington GP at least 1 Bittern still present. At Linacre Reservoirs c150 Pinkfeet flew W this morning. At Whitwell the Common (Mealy) Redpoll still present with Lesser Redpolls in a glade off Franklin Road this afternoon. At Carsington at least 1 Great Northern Diver still present and fem Scaup from Wildlife Centre. At Staunton Harold Reservoir a Barnacle Goose, a Raven 3 Yellow-legged Gulls (2 ad & a 2ndW) and c100 Pink-feet flew W. At Milton a Little Egret flew over this morning heading towards Ingleby. At Butterley Reservoir the Twite still present with Linnets in rough fields by the Sewage Works but mobile, also c750 Pink-feet flew W, Raven and Chiffchaff still there. At Drakelow WR (permit only) the Bittern still present. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res) the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans. At Carr Vale the Bittern still present. At North Wingfield c200 Golden Plover flew S between 08.30 and 08.40 hrs, also a Snipe over and 2 Raven flew N at 14.45 hrs.

At Carr Vale the Bittern seen again from the Mound mid-morning and again in the reed edge late afternoon, also Peregrine, a Water Rail, 400 Golden Plover and the Chiffchaff still present. At Willington GP now 2 Bitterns present and showing well mid-morning. At Carr Vale a Bittern (7th site record) showing well from the Mound, also a male Hen Harrier (6th site record) flew S then E at 12.00 hrs, c120 Pinkfeet flew E and 50 flew W, 160 Wigeon, 49 Gadwall and a Chiffchaff on the Embankment. At Foremark Reservoir 2ndW Glaucous Gull, ad Caspian Gull, and 3 Yellow-legged Gulls in the roost. At Ogston a Nordic Jackdaw with a large corvid flock at Brackenfield, also both Aythya hybrids still present, c18 Tree Sparrows, a Water Rail showing well and 7 Woodcocks emerging from Carr Wood at dusk.
