in fields E of Swarkestone Bridge and 4 Ravens between Swarkestone and Barrow-upon-Trent. At Butterley Reservoir 8 Gadwall, 58 Tufted Ducks, 13 Pochard, 19

At Willington GP a Marsh Harrier from the 2nd viewing platform at 14.10 hrs, also Shelduck and 4 Goosander there. At Shipley Park the Short-eared Owl still
over rough grassland by the American Adventure Park. At Ambaston GP the drake Red-crested Pochard still present. At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull
and ad Mediterranean Gull in the roost again late afternoon, also ad Yellow-legged Gull.

At Long Eaton GP a Ruddy Shelduck on the Windsurfing Pit. At Matlock Forest 20 Crossbills at Bottom Moor Plantation. By Wilne Lane (SW of Church Wilne Res)
the Bewick's Swan still present with Mute Swans. At Butterley Reservoir a total of c.350 Pinkfeet flew W between 0950-1000, also 8 Gadwall, 29 Wigeon, 10
Pochard, 70 Tufted Ducks, 155 Coot and a single Goldcrest.

At Carsington 2 Black-throated Divers present briefly mid-morning, no sign later but up to 3 Great Northern there during the afternoon. At Ambaston GP the
drake Red-crested Pochard still present. At Shipley CP the Short-eared Owl still present in fields by the American Adventure Park late afternoon. At Cromford
2+ Hawfinch present by the entrance to Willersley Castle. At Matlock Forest 35+ Crossbills at Bottom Moor Plantation, also a few Bramblings there and 2+
Crossbills on Flash Lane. Nearby at least 4 Bramblings alongside Screetham Lane. At Butterley Reservoir 10 Pochard, 8 Gadwall, 25 Wigeon, 63 Tufted Ducks,
2 Great Crested Grebes, 77 Fieldfares flew W, 3 Skylarks flew W and 69 Herring Gulls flew NE and a Water Rail showing well. At Ogston c130 Pinkfeet flew W
around midday and presumably the same seen heading W over Matlock shortly afterwards. At Bradley Pond 120 Mandarins.

Common Buzzard, Redshank and Tree Sparrows, also a Kittiwake present during the morning. At Wyver Lane 17 Goosander at 16.30 hrs, 2 Shoveler, 33 Wigeon and 17 Teal. At Butterley Reservoir 61 Tufted Ducks,

also a Pink-foot with 19 Greylags (a very good number for this site), 135 Wigeon and 2 Water Rails. At Longshaw the 2 Mealy Redpolls still visiting feeders
by the cafe, also 7+ Bramblings there. At Wyver Lane 2 fem Goldeneye (rare here the last record being in Nov 2006), 3 Gadwall, 5 Goosander, 5 Pochard, 10
Tufted Ducks, 42 Teal, 75 Canada Geese, 460 Black-headed Gulls, 5 Stock Doves and 8 Lapwings. At Butterley Reservoir 6 Greylag Geese flew SE.

Sawley a Bittern on Triangle Pond (an area with no general access). At Carsington the 1stW fem Scaup still present but no sign of any Great Northern Divers

the River Derwent. By Wilne Lane the ad Bewick's Swan still present on the River Derwent also the Pink-foot still there. At Sawley 200 Pinkfeet flew over
at 10.50 hrs. At Cromford 6 Hawfinch by the entrance to Willersley Castle. At Staunton Harold Reservoir a 2ndW Yellow-legged Gull, Raven, 110 Great Crested
Grebes, 275 Wigeon, 8 Goldeneye, a Barnacle Goose and a Bar-headed Goose. At Drakelow WR (permit only) 4 Smew (1 drake), 16 Mandarins, and a Pintail.
8th January
At Willington GP at least 1 Bittern still present and 35 Pinkfeet flew W. At Carr Vale 90 Pink-feet landed at 1050 and were still present at 12.20 hrs, also
c100 flew east at 11.10. hrs. Also 65 Pied Wagtails left the sewage works to roost north of here, still 140+ Wigeon and a Water Rail but no sign of the
Bittern for the last two days. At Foremark Reservoir 2 ad Caspian Gulls in the roost,also 6 Yellow-legged Gulls. At Cromford a Hawfinch by the entrance to
Willersley Castle. Between Ambaston and Shardlow 4 Whooper Swans with Mute Swans by the River Derwent this afternoon. At Whitwell Quarry 15 Whooper Swans
flew E at 09.30 and a Common (Mealy) Redpoll there.
7th January
At Foremark Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull and an ad Caspian Gull in the roost. At Markeaton Park 5 Goosanders at the northern end of the lake.
6th January
At Church Wilne Reservoir (permit only) a 1stW drake Scaup and nearby the Pink-footed Goose still present in fields alongside Wilne Lane but no sign of the
Bewick's Swan today. At Carsington the juv Great Northern Diver still present off Stones Island, also Yellow-legged Gull from Sheepwash Hide. At Foremark
Reservoir the 2ndW Glaucous Gull and 8 Yellow-legged Gulls in the roost. At Drakelow WR (permit only) the Bittern still present. At Carr Vale the Bittern
walked across the ice at 10.55 hrs and then in full view from 15.05 to 16.20 hrs. At Butterley Reservoir a Brambling roosting with Greenfinches, most of the
reservoir frozen but good numbers of Coot, 3 Pochard, 26 Tufted Ducks and only 1 Great Crested Grebe on the remaining ice free areas.
5th January
At Carr Vale the Bittern still present and showing well on the ice at noon but later seen heading S over Meadow Flash. Also a fem Goosander there. At Long
Eaton a Bittern flew over Fields Farm Road this morning and nearby at Long Eaton GP a Jack Snipe on the first pit on the left along Pasture Lane. By Wilne

W this morning. At Whitwell the Common (Mealy) Redpoll still present with Lesser Redpolls in a glade off Franklin Road this afternoon. At Carsington at

Harrier (6th site record) flew S then E at 12.00 hrs, c120 Pinkfeet flew E and 50 flew W, 160 Wigeon, 49 Gadwall and a Chiffchaff on the Embankment.
At Foremark Reservoir 2ndW Glaucous Gull, ad Caspian Gull, and 3 Yellow-legged Gulls in the roost. At Ogston a Nordic Jackdaw with a large corvid flock at
Brackenfield, also both Aythya hybrids still present, c18 Tree Sparrows, a Water Rail showing well and 7 Woodcocks emerging from Carr Wood at dusk.
