Eagle Owl at Heanor

This presumed escaped adult Eagle Owl has apparently been resident in the Lockton Avenue area of Heanor for quite a while. The local residents have seen it for over 6 weeks and it takes Squirrels and Rabbits regularly (possibly from nearby Shipley Park). One of the residents has apparently contacted various Owl groups and has been informed that they are being released in Derbyshire with a view to re-introduction. I don't know whether this is true or not but either way, it seems more likely that this bird is an escape. There have been recent reports of one (or more?) in the Derby area.
If you do happen to live in that area you may be well advised to keep any pets indoors as they have been known to kill cats and even small dogs.

Daniel Martin visited on 21st June and managed to get the three photos below as it roosted on a chimney in an overhanging tree. Thanks to Daniel for the above information and the photos below.

Apparently today (22nd June) an Owl expert? has tried to tempt the bird down with food, and the Fire Brigade were called out to try and capture the bird, but only suceeded in flushing it.
