You
couldn’t walk around the Windsor/Slough area in the early seventies
without seeing some of the Argus posters. In fact they were seen all
around the Berkshire gig circuit. Bright, colourful and always with
an intriguing subtext visually, whether it be surreal landscapes or
Warholesque figures, sometimes with the Harpo credit on…Bob was
foolin’ no-one…the Eye Of Argus was assaulting the streets
once more. Using hand-cut stencils and screenprinting out of the psychedelic
caravan in his back garden…we all waited to see what he would
come up with next. If there was an Argus poster out there on the walls,
you could bet the band would be good. These are some of the best examples
of Bob’s work in those strange days, for many of us they represent
a conduit to the excitement back then when anything could happen on a Friday or Saturday
night, and frequently did!
