My Bottle Collection...

These
900+ bottles largely came out of the ground ! In the days when I lived
in Oxford, a Victorian dump was uncovered near to the river and many
collectors headed that way and started digging for cod bottles (the
ones with marbles in). These never appealed to me, but the much smaller
poison and scent bottles did and I was down there gathering them up
as well - the Victorians produced many coloured bottles of every conceivable
shape and size (plastic hadn't been invented yet !). Some of the scent
bottles still had remnants of their contents in, which over the years
in the ground had broken down to hydrogen sulphide (bad eggs - stink
bomb smell) - I wasn't very popular in my bedsit days cleaning these
things out ! I don't actively add to this collection, and it stands
proudly now on full shelves at one end of my 30ft long kitchen.
