My Decanters Collection...

These were commonly known as fairground decanters. They could be seen on hoopla stalls where to win one you would have to throw a hoop and get one over the decanter. Usually the hoop was supposed to go all the way over and settle at the base, but sometimes there were crooked fairgrounds that made sure the hoops they handed out didn't quite fit over the bulbous part of the decanter and then declare you hadn't won. They would demonstrate that it was possible with a slightly larger hoop they kept in their hand. Nowadays these turn up in car boot sales and charity shops.
