Unpacking

So the big day has arrived, and your R20 has been delivered or collected and you have a brown cardboard box full of promising hardware.

First of all, the Lithium battery is supplied with a low state of charge. This is because lithium batteries have best shelf life in this condition. You will need to give it a good long charge before you can go out and about with it. If you are an impetuous type, you can use the adaptor and sling three AA cells in there (either throw away or rechargable) and then charge the Lithium pack overnight at a suitable time.

The lithium pack is great, it seems to last for a whole waking day, no matter what you do with it.

You can in fact use the R20 straight away while it is charging if you don't mind being tethered to it's power supply. There is a restriction here with some chargers as they give out some nasty interference on HF. The design of the power supply varies from region to region but some types, as for instance supplied to the UK are very noisy. This is never a problem with VHF and UHF FM but will affect your AM performance.
