Resetting the R20 If your R20 goes belly up and starts doing weird things, you don't need to panic, well not too much anyway, because there's a fair chance that it will be put back on it's feet again by applying a reset. There are two levels of reset, one applies a mild reset to restore the most basic defaults, and a deep reset wipes everything and returns it to factory defaults. You do have a copy of a recent backup don't you :-) A mild reset is achieved by powering up whilst you are pressing VFO VFO + POWER A mild reset is the same but you hold down MR S.MW too. VFO + MR S.MW + POWER and on the screen you should see ALL RESET and the screen clears and then defaults to 145MHz
A few little quirks Sometimes, it seems that the voice recorder seems to get corrupted, usually when the Auto Power Off option shuts down the radio during a recording session. You may find that the first time you try and play back, you just get a fart, and the next time you play back, the radio shuts down. In this condition, a general reset will clear the corrupted voice file but I noted last time this happened that I could not perform a general reset until I had unplugged the USB lead. Sometimes the R20 refuses to power up. This usually seems to happen when the battery has got really low and on plugging the adaptor in, the radio crashes. Obviously you can't do either reset procedure if the radio won't turn on but if you slip the battery out for a short period, all should be well again.
