Scanning

The R20 has a number of scan modes as you might expect.

Scanning is achived by pressing down the SCAN button and holding until you see SCAN: in the bottom left of the screen. You can then use the scroll knob to select what it is you want to scan. Scanning starts as soon as you release the SCAN button.

The scanning function differs significantly depending on whether you are in VFO or Memory mode.

To stop scanning at any point, press DUALWATCH

Scanning freely in VFO mode

Basic Scanning SCAN : ALL

When in VFO mode, hold down SCAN, and if necessary, scroll to SCAN : ALL. The R20 will start scanning upwards from where you were previously stopped. To reverse the direction of scanning and scan downwards in frequency, twist the tuning knob anticlockwise.

The R20 will scan through the whole range of the scanner.

Scanning a band SCAN : BAND

When in VFO mode, hold down SCAN, and if necessary, scroll to SCAN : BAND . The R20 will start scanning upwards from where you were previously stopped. To reverse the direction of scanning and scan downwards in frequency, twist the tuning knob anticlockwise.

The R20 will scan through the whole currently selected band.

Scanning between two frequencies SCAN : PROG-00

You can define upper and lower limits within which to scan. In effect, you are defining special bands which you can scan in VFO mode.

Scanning banks of memory channels

Scanning all banks SCAN : ALL

Scanning groups of banks
SCAN : BANK-LINK

You can define a scan routine which includes a number of memory banks all strung together.

These are set up in the SET menu.

Other scanning techniques

Priority scanning
PRIO
As well as scanning, you can also give priority to certain channels so that you won't miss any action when you're listening to another frequency.

Lock Outs

PSKIP
It's possible to make the R20 ignore certain frequencies that you don't want cropping up in a scan or search. This is done by programming them in as a channel and setting them as SKIP or PSKIP.
