  • Memory parameters
  • How the banks are laid out
  • Entering a frequency into a memory location (saving)
  • Creating a memory channel from an Auto Write (AW) channel
  • Deleting a memory
  • Clearing all channels

  Invoking Memory Mode

To get into memory mode, press the MR S.MW button until the MR flag is shown in the bottom left of the display. The MR S.MW button will toggle round between AW, PreSet CH , TV and the MR banks. This is achieved with just a quick press. If you hold the button down for too long it may go into channel set mode. If this happens, press DUAL WATCH to quit.

  Memory Parameters

As well as the VFO mode, the R-20 can also operate in memory mode.

In each memory channel location, a number of parameters are stored. The first and most obvious of these being the frequency, but as well as this, there are quite a few other parameters stored on a channel by channel basis.

Parameters in Memory Mode
Parameter Values
Frequency MHz
Offset direction (OFF/-DUP/+DUP)
Offset freq MHz

Items shown in yellow are found in the  SET MODE  Menu. Items in green are found under the channel set mode.

How the banks are laid out

The R20 has 1050 memory channels including 50 scan edge memory channels (25 pairs).

Each of these locations can be assigned to one or none of 26 memory banks labelled alphabetically (A-Z). Each bank holds up to a maximum of 100 channels. If no channels are assigned to a bank, the bank will not be visible.

Entering a frequency into a memory location (saving)

Let's assume you have a frequency selected in VFO mode and you want to save it to a memory.

Push  [MR S.MW]  for 1 second to select the memory write condition. You'll notice that in this condition,

Any changes you make on the fly are enacted as you make them and you do not have to confirm your changes at any stage. However, you may wish to re-save your newly changed settings if you wish to update the parameters to previously saved memory channel.

If you need to store this new value to update the current memory channel, hold down [MR S.MW] for just one second until the channel menu appears. Check that you have the right memory channel. Press [MR S.MW] again until you hear two bleeps. The screen will return to the default memory channel mode screen and the value has been saved. You can check this by flipping to another channel and back again. You should find that your changes have been successfully updated.
