Cleveland Motorcycle Training Scheme

(Unofficial Site)

My wife and I are both volunteer instructors for CLEVELAND MOTORCYCLE TRAINING SCHEME, which I believe is the largest single motorcycle training scheme in the country. It has over 80 volunteer instructors and covers Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool and the surrounding areas.

It is also widely regarded as the best in the country, with several of the instructors winning awards in competitions organized by our local police force, we even taught the White Helmets to ride safely on the road!

CMTS is, I believe, unique in that all the instructors are Volunteers. That benefits the trainees in two areas:

  1.     You are trained by genuine, enthusiastic, experienced, motorcyclists who enjoy what they do rather than doing it to take a pay packet home at the end of the week. That doesn't mean we do not have to be as good! All the instructors are regularly monitored by the Driving Standards Agency or DSA authorized persons.
  2.     Because we are all volunteers, CMTS prices are among, if not the lowest in the country!

CMTS can train you on their own motorcycles, or you can use your own, and they cater for the standard 125cc test and the Direct Access test using the larger machines. CMTS offer mid-week training, which consists of 3 consecutive days, and weekend training, which involves approximately 8 Saturday or Sunday mornings. Single and half-day training is available for Direct Access. To accommodate the rapidly increasing scooter market CMTS are now offering 7 days-a-week CBT training days consisting of enough time to complete a CBT course, sometimes this may last just one, but long, day.
