Aviators,
download this FREE Flight
Planning & Notam Plotting
program to help decide on
that flying day out.
The problem :-
Where shall we go.
Out to lunch or tea ? How far ? which direction ? what about
crosswinds ? Airfield & En-Route Notams ? can't remember
all the airfields in detail for runway direction and club
facilities. This program answers these questions.
It all
started when one day in the club around
1993, Hilly Beavan shows a group of us a chart which she had
invented, with airfields plotted out in runway direction and
distance instead of the usual map of bearing and distance. It
immediately showed those with one runway and a crosswind problem.
I thought, this could be computerised, so here it is developed
with, by now ( many years later ), a large number of
embellishments.. ( The program is now quite complex and runs to
book of 221 A4 pages of computer code instructions!)
Choose your base
aerodrome then enter the wind and aircraft details then plot
:-
1) A map of
desired radius (40-240 nm)
2) A plot
of runway directions , (example screen
"The "Hilly Plot" hplot.gif
)
3) Download European Notams from
UK-AIS or Northern European Notams fromDanish
Notam
site, and Download
Notams for
the next few days from Olivia,
( France &
Neighbouring areas ) and
see them
plotted.
The program
attempts to read the Notams, looking for specific words or
phrases which helps to decide how the plot should be
made.
Types of Notam are identified as are
Operating Heights and these are added as text to the plotted area
corresponding to the declared radius (nm).
Any remaining Notams not plotted are
available as text (usually a few IFR Only Notams plus any VFR
with radius > 75nm ) .
All Notam text is converted to Lower Case
to improve readability.
Notams with containing multiple Lat/Long
are displayed as boxes defining an area or
route.
Notam Plotting was first introduce in 2003 and has been
extensively developed since that time.
Click on a Plotted NOTAM to see the
details. ( Notam.jpg

Note: Other programs
plot Notams according to the Q Line data. This is the only one I
know of which READS the Notam and plots the actual radius of the
activity, derived from the E line data and labels it with the type of
activity.
A Danger Area list is also compiled giving
the location in addition to the DG Number to ease
identification.
Cross wind
limits are shown round the edge of the 'Hilly' plot. Runways within the
green arc are within limits in the Runway
direction plot.
Click on an Airfield
to call up details including your
previously entered comments ( lunch, tea, landing fee , fuel
price etc.). Further click to AIP Airfield plates websites &
webcams etc.
Enter Towns, Airfields , Beacons or
VRPs into a Flight Plan ( Plog ) by a mouse click which
re-centers the plot at the waypoint. Continue to the
destination.
Click on the nearby
"En-Route" NOTAM Plots for additional information and
add to the Flight Plan (Plog ) (e:g: Notams within 5nm
)
View and Print the Flight Plan (Plog) ,
and .... have a nice day out. ( Example Plog
)
Airfield
databases include UK, France, Holland , Belgium, Denmark,
Germany, Sweden & Norway, all with Notam plot capability.

but
all can be used for flight planning .

Fill in the details below to join the Cross-Wind email group
which will then allow you to obtain the program files and a
password to enable all features. The main purpose of this
YahooGroup is to allow me to inform users about upgrades which
happen from time to time . User comments are also welcome. ( for
those worried about email density, this is a very low traffic
density site )
Installation
instructions, FOLLOWING your YahooGroups Registration
:-
Download
the current Version from the top of this page. Files are
installed in a "C:\Xwind" directory.
This will overwrite your "UK& Eire.air" airfield
database so that any fields/vrps/towns you may have added will be
lost, but maybe my database has additional ones anyway.
To preserve your own database and personal additions, Copy your
xxx.air files from " C:\Xwind" and save in a
safe place for restoring to the "C:\Xwind"
folder afterwards.
