Over the last few years we have been on several holidays in Asia. We are both keen amateur birdwatchers from Manchester, England and try and combine birdwatching, sight-seeing and lounging around.
We usually just book the long-haul flights from the UK, then make all other arrangements when we arrive. We generally stay in the 'middle' range of accommodation using the Lonely Planet or Rough Guide travel books, although as we get older (and perhaps a little better off), luxuries like cleanliness and swimming pools are worth that bit extra. After all, we are having a break from fairly stressful jobs and want to relax a bit.
I am not totally obsessed by seeing large numbers of new species so we usually go at a gentle pace and enjoy the occasional lie-in, so we're not up before dawn every day !
