MAGUS

LEVEL 1

AFFECT NORMAL FIRES

Effect:

By casting this spell the mage can alter the shape, size, luminescence and intensity of any nonb-magical fire within the target range and area of effect. The fire still does the same amount of damage, however, creatures who fear fire and make a SOUL check must do so with a - spell level modifier to the target number.

Modifications:

Increase duration by 2 rounds per level.
Increase range by 5 yds per level


ALARM

Casting Time: 1 Round Area of Effect: 10 ft radius sphere

Effect:

This spell causes a 10 ft radius spherical area around the target to be magically sensitive to any living creature larger than a rat (BOD 2+). As soon as any creature enters the area of the spell it triggers a loud ringing sound which can be heard upto 60ft away. The spell can be modified to make a silent alarm which is only audible to spell casters, to do so the caster must indicate so in his incantation and increase the spells level by 2.

Modifications:

Increase duration by +1 hour per addn level
Silent alarm only heard by spell casters +2 levels (no change in duration)


ARREST

Effect:

This spell may be used to mark or mask the magical aura of an object. The caster causes the object to radiate an aura of his choosing. Anyone subsequently casting a detect magic or identify magical object spell must make a successful MIND check vs spell level to identify the correct aura thus dispelling the effect. This should be carried out prior to any rolls required to glean information from the object. Should the caster so choose they can mark the object in any way to impart information to whosoever reads the object. Common forms such as an inscription or the object delivers a message or mental impression and are subject to DMıs discretion.

Modifications:

Increase effect strength +1 per level.


AURA

Effect:

A blessing can affect any 1 of a targets skills or stats temporarily by a maximum factor of +1. The target must then make checks using the affected skill or stat at the modified level.

Modifications:

Increase duration 6 turns per level (same effect)
Increase area of effect by 1 additional target per level (same effect)


BLASTING BOLT
Sphere: MAGUS Alignment: N/A

Casting Time: 1 Round Area of Effect: 90 degree arc of vision

Effect:

This spell enables the caster to shoot fort from his hands a spherical bolt of energy approximately 3 inches in diameter. This bolt always hits itıs desired target which must be clearly visible within the casterıs 90 degree arc of vision and within the specified range. Each bolt has a damage effect of 4, however the caster may chose to create1 additional effect 4 bolt per level. The caster may also choose to modify the effect strength of a bolt by +1 per additional level or a combination of the two.

The Blasting bolt does not ignore a targets armour, damage is calculated in the normal way bolts causing F / I / C/K

Modifications:

CHARM PERSON

Effect:

When this spell is cast the target must make a MIND check vs the casterıs MIND. The target number is modified by - spell level. An unsuccesful check roll means that target regards the caster in the most favourable light possible. An opposed MIND check is made every day until the target makes a successful check and shrugs off the effect of the spell. The spell does not allow the caster to control the charmed person, however, any suggestion will be treated most favourably.

Modifications:

Increase effect strength -1 MOD to MIND Roll per level.


CHARMED MOUNT
Sphere: MAGUS Alignment: N/A

Effect:

This spell allows the caster to call a creature from the surrounding area (upto the range of the spell) to act as a mount. The caster may choose to specify an individual creature or type if it is in plain sight otherwise the creature called is chosen by the DM from the common creatures in that area. Once the spell is successfully cast the creature must make an opposed MIND check vs the casters MIND, target number modified by -spell level. A successful check means that the creature has ignored the magusı call, otherwise the creature makes itıs way to the caster at itıs max move rate. N.B duration takes effect immediately and does not allow for the time the creature takes to arrive.

This spell may not be used to charm creatures who are resistant to charm spells.

CHILLING HAND

Effect:

When the spell is cast, the magusı hand glows blue, If the hand comes into contact with any living thing it must make a BODY check vs spell level or suffer the loss of 1 point of BODY temporarily. Repeated applications of the spell can never reduce a targets BODY to less than 1. Targets affected in this way should immediately recalculate all skills before completing their next check roll.

BODY returns at the rate of 1 point per hour.

COMPREHEND LANGUAGES

Effect:

When this spell is cast the magus can understand everything that the target creature says or if cast on a piece of non-magical writing he can read and understand it.

DETECT MAGIC

Effect:

This spell enables the caster to detect any magical radiations upto 30 yds (90 ft) away in his field of view. The caster may also tell what type of magic created the radiation (Magus, Cleros or Pagos) and how long ago (1 Hr per level). The spell will not tell the caster what spell was cast nor who cast the spell.

Modifications:

Increase duration 1 turn per level


DETECT UNDEAD

Casting Time: 1 Round Area of Effect: 90 degree arc of vision

Effect:

This spell enables the caster to detect any undead creature upto 30 yds (90 ft) away in his field of view. The spell will detect undead through most obstacles of upto 2 yds (6ft) thickness, however, an object which is coated in a layer of lead will block all attempts. The spell cannot tell the caster what type of undead are detected, nor can it tell where they are other than the general direction.

ERASION

Casting Time: 1 Turn Area of Effect: 1 scroll or 2 pages

Effect:

This spell enables the caster to erase magical or non-magical writing from a scroll or upto 2 pages of a book. If the target object contains the written form of a spell (ie: the object is a spell scroll or a spell book) or is a glyph or ward the caster must make a spell level vs spell level roll to erase the writing or ward.

All non-magical writtings immediately dissapear and no roll is required.

Modifications:

Increase effect strength vs magical writings by +1 level per level.


FLAME STRIKE

Effect:

When cast this spell shoots forth a jet of flame from the caster in a 90 degree arc upto 40 yds in distance. All targets caught in the area of effect take damage as if it were a normal fire. Initial spell duration is instant but fire lasts until fuel exhausted or fire is extinguished

GREASED

Effect:

This spell covers any solid surface in a layer of fatty grease. Any creature entering the area or caught in it when the spell is cast must make an athlete check vs spell level or fall over. Those who succeed make it to the next non-slippery area without falling over. Targets caught in the area cannot make attacks of any kind, and are treated as prone if they are the target of any missile fire from outside the affected area.

GROW / SHRINK

Effect:

This spell can cause the instant growth or shrinking (as indicated in the incantation) of a creature or an object by 10% per level. Any object which is in contact with the target is also affected by the spell. Target creatures Stats are also temporarily increased by the same factor (rounded up to the nearest whole number), however skills remain unaffected.

HOLD PORTAL

Effect:

This spell magically bars any non-magical portal as if it were closed and locked. An open portal or dispel magic spell can be used to cancel this spells effects. Any held portal can be broken down if sufficient damage is caused.

HYPNOTISM

Effect:

This spell causes any creatures to be temporarily susceptible to suggestions from the caster. The suggestion (in a language that the creature can understand) is given after the spell is cast. The creature is must make an opposed MIND check vs the caster, the target number then has a -spell level modifier applied to it. Unsuccessful checks result in the creature being strongly urged to carry out the suggestion. Suggestions cannot directly require the target to suffer pain or damage, although suggestions which carry a potential for accidental damage taken whilst in their pursuit are allowed. When the spell wears of the creature remembers nothing that has occured nor that they were hypnotised.

IDENTIFY MAGIC ITEM

Casting Time: 1 Turn + 4 Hours study Area of Effect: 1 object

Effect:

This spell enables the caster to identify 1 magical item, scroll or pieceof writing. After studying the item for 4 hours he may cast the spell and then making a succesful oppsed MIND check, if the target object contains a bound entity , or a MIND vs Spell Level / Magical bonus check as dictated by the target object. In either case the target number is modified by +1 per additional level and hour spent prior to casting the spell. The spell reveals everything about the object such as; Damage bonus, command words, stored spells, name, Stats and Skills of any bound entities.

Modifications:

Increase effect strength by +1 per level & additional hour of study time prior to casting.


JUMP

Effect:

This spell enables any creature touched to leap up to 10 yds (30ft) forward or vertically upwards per level. The spell does not ensure that the target lands safely only that they jump or leap the specified distance

Casting this spell causes a magical barrier to surround the caster protecting them against all non-magical attacks. Any attack made upon the caster suffers a -spell level modifier to the target number.

MASQUE SELF

Effect:

Enables the caster to alter the appearance of his form as detailed in the incantation. The caster may choose to alter his facial features in order to disguise himself. Anyone trying to recognise him must apply a - spell level target number modifier to a MIND vs difficulty check to successfully identify the caster.

N.B. This spell does not masque athe casters scent and therefore does not work on most animals.

MEND

Effect:

This spell mends small tears or breaks in an object, it can weld metal, repair torn cloth, or cracked porcelain, pottery or wood. The object to be repaired must be of the same substance throughout the area of the repair (E.g. it cannot rejoin two pieces of different types of metal along a weld, however it can repair a rivet joining two pieces of different metals)

MYSTIC ARMOUR

Effect:

The recipient of this spell gains a - spell level modifier to the damage target number of any succsesful attacks made upon them.

PHOBIA
Sphere: MAGUS Alignment: N/A
Range: 10 yds (30 ft) Duration: 5 Turns
Casting Time: 1 Round Area of Effect: 1 creature per level

Effect:

Using this spell the caster instills fear in the target by imitating something that they are naturally afraid of. This requires the creature to make an immediate opposed MIND check vs the caster, with a -spell modifier to target number. If unsuccessful the victim flees immediately at their maximum move rate away from the caster. They must then make a MIND check vs level of spell every turn to stop and spend one turn shaking themselves free of the effects before they may return. If the victim does not make a successful MIND check before the spell runs out, they will automatically stop dead in their tracks and curl up in a foetal position.

N.B. creatures immune to charm are unaffected by this spell. In addition the cleros spell remove fear cannot be used to counter the effect.

PROTECTION FROM EVIL

Effect:

When this spell is cast it creates a magical barrier around the target. Should the target be attacked physically, magically or mentally by anything with a true or charmed Evil alignment it offers a -2 Target Number modifier to that attack roll.

N.B. This affects the actual attack and not the effect of the attack. If an attack is successful it causes a normal effect.

Increase duration 3 Rounds per level.


READ MAGIC

Effect:

Using this spell a magus can read and understand any magical writing (E.g. a spell description) written in any of the magical languages regardless of wether they can read that language. This does not normally result in the spell being cast, however if the writing contains a command word word and that command word is spoken during the reading, the spell would be activated. The caster can read upto 1 page or its equivalent per round.

SLEEP

Effect:

This spell causes all targets within the area of effect and range to fall into a deep slumber. Each target must make an opposed MIND checl vs the caster, with a -spell level target number modifier. Success means that the creature is unaffected by the spell, otherwise they immediately fall asleep an drop to the floor uninjured.

Creatures with immunity to sleep are unaffected as are all types of undead.

Creatures who have fallen asleep may be awakened by a slap or cold water being thrown on their faces, but normal sounds have no effect.

SPHERE OF LIGHT

Effect:

Causes a spherical zone of light to emanate 15 ft radius from the caster. This zone cannot be prevented by any source of darkness magical or otherwise. Non Translucent objects such as walls, floors doors and ceilings will stop the light from extending to itıs full radius.

STATIC GRIP

Effect:

When this spell is cast the Magus develops a powerful charge of static electricity which he may subsequently discharge into a creature by touch.

Each time the spell is cast, before making any attacks the mage must roll 1d8 per level, this equates to the amount of charge his body has accumulated. He may then discharge it as he sees fit until it is completely dissipated. If the target resists the mage must make a successful brawl attack on the target in order to make significant contact with which to discharge. The target then takes an automatic effect hit equivalent to the amount of charge passed into him by the caster.

WALL OF FOG

Effect:

This spell creates a wall of fog centred on the target within the specified range up to the specified volume. The fog obscures vision (-1 per level to target number on all MIND observation checks). The target must be a stationary target within the casterıs field of vision (90 degree arc).

CAUSE FEAR

Effect:

Using this spell the caster instils fear in the target requiring an immediate SOUL check Vs level of the spell. If unsuccessful the victim immediately flees at their maximum move rate away from the caster. They must then make a SOUL check Vs level of spell every turn to stop and spend one turn shaking themselves free of the effects before they may return. If the victim does not make a successful SOUL check before the spell runs out, they will automatically stop dead in their tracks and curl up in a foetal position.

CAUSE FLESH WOUND

Effect:

This spell causes the target to receive a flesh wound. Multiple applications of this spell can never increase the targets wound status to more than flesh wound

COMBINE

Effect:

Using this spell 3 to 5 cleros or pagos may combine their abilities in order that one of them may draw upon their combined strength and power. The cleros / pagos form a ring around the central caster and cast the combine spell. Each caster forming the ring must have the spell otherwise the spell will fail. Once all the casters forming the ring have successfully cast the combine spell the caster in the middle can increase the target number for any spell or combination of spells by 1 per caster in the ring.

E.g. 4 cleros form a ring and cast the combine spell whilst another cleros (Religion 6) attempts to cast a Bless spell at level 4(target number 9). The combine spell grants a +4 bonus to the target number taking it to 13 (NB Target numbers can never exceed 12 so this is reduced to 11)

The combine spell lasts until the circle of casters is broken. Should the circle be broken before the central caster completes his incantation, the spell automatically fails and he is stunned for a number of rounds equal to the number of casters in the ring.

CREATE FOOD & WATER

Effect:

This spell allows the caster to create food and water equal to one days rations per level.

N.B. Pagos of Water cannot create food and Pagos of Fire cannot create water.

CURE FLESH WOUND

Range: Touch Duration: Permanent

Effect:

Heals 1 flesh wound. Cannot be used to heal a target with a wound status of greater than flesh wound. Multiple applications can not heal wounds beyond flesh wound status

CURSE

Effect:

A curse can affect any 1 of a targets skills or stats temporarily by a maximum factor of -1. The target must then make checks using the affected skill or stat at the modified level.

DARKNESS

Effect:

Causes a spherical zone of darkness to emanate 15 ft radius from the caster which cannot be lit by any light source magical or otherwise, nor can any light pass out of the sphere. Non Translucent objects such as walls, floors doors and ceilings will stop the darkness from extending to itıs full radius.

INVISIBILITY TO UNDEAD

Effect:

When cast, this spell causes undead to ignore the recipient of this spell even if they should accidentally come into contact with each other. The effect of the spell ends immediately if the recipient makes an attack of any kind.

LIGHT

Effect:

Causes a spherical zone of light to emanate 15 ft radius from the caster which cannot be extinguished by any darkness magical or otherwise. Non Translucent objects such as walls, floors doors and ceilings will stop the light from extending to itıs full radius.

When this spell is cast it creates a magical barrier around the target. Should the target be attacked physically, magically or mentally by anything with a true or charmed Evil alignment it offers a -2 Target Number modifier to that attack roll.

N.B. This affects the actual attack and not the effect of the attack. If an attack is successful it causes a normal effect.

Modifications:

Increase duration 3 Rounds per level.

This spell allows the caster to purify 1 days rations per level of food and water. Any diseased or poisoned food or water upto poison class H will be purified and will have no effect if eaten or drunk.

Effect:

This spell allows the caster to spoil 1 days rations per level of food and water. If this food or water is subsequently eaten or drunk then it will have the same effect as a light poison (poison class H).

ANIMAL FRIENDSHIP

Effect:

Animal friendship may be cast on any creature with an individual MIND of 2 - 4 (i.e.: no gestalt entities, undead or insects with hive minds). It creates a permanent bond of friendship which allows the caster to teach the creature up to 3 tricks per point of MIND. The caster must when casting the spell on a creature name the creature in whichever language of the caster's choosing by incorporating the name into the incantation. The caster may then call the creature at will by voice. The success of the call depends on how far the creature is from the caster and what senses it has. (DM's discretion)

Pagos are restricted to finding animals which are native to the element in which they specialise:

Water: Fish and amphibians.
Air: Birds and flying mammals.
Fire: Insects and reptiles.
Earth: Land mammals.

BLESSING

Effect:

A blessing can affect any 1 of a targets skills or stats temporarily by a maximum factor of +1. The target must then make checks using the affected skill or stat at the modified level.

Increase area of effect by 1 additional target per level (same effect)


BREEZE
Sphere: PAGOS Alignment: Air
Range: 100 yds (300 ft) Duration: 1 Turn per level
Casting Time: 1 Turn Area of Effect: 90 degree Arc of vision

Effect:

This spell creates a breeze stretching out in front of the caster in a 90 degree arc by apt 100 yds per level. All creatures in this arc must make an Athlete check Vs level of spell to be able to act freely other wise they suffer a -level of spell modifier to all skill or stat checks.

E.g. A Pagos of Air (Healing 5) decides he's going to breeze a group of people. He decides what level he is going to boost the spell to (say level 3) and makes a skill check with a target number of 9 (skill 5 Vs spell level 3 = 9). The target must then make an Athlete skill check Vs spell level (in this case 3) if successful they can move freely otherwise they suffer a -3 modifier to every skill or stat check as they brace against the wind.

This spells effects can be countered with an Endure Extremes (Wind) spell.

Modifications:

Increase range by 10 yds (30 ft) per level
Increase breeze strength (-1 per level to Athlete checks) no change in range.


COMBINE

Effect:

Using this spell 3 to 5 cleros or pagos may combine their abilities in order that one of them may draw upon their combined strength and power. The cleros / pagos form a ring around the central caster and cast the combine spell. Each caster forming the ring must have the spell otherwise the spell will fail. Once all the casters forming the ring have successfully cast the combine spell the caster in the middle can increase the target number for any spell or combination of spells by 1 per caster in the ring.

E.g. 4 cleros form a ring and cast the combine spell whilst another cleros (Religion 6) attempts to cast a Bless spell at level 4(target number 9). The combine spell grants a +4 bonus to the target number taking it to 13 (NB Target numbers can never exceed 12 so this is reduced to 11)

The combine spell lasts until the circle of casters is broken. Should the circle be broken before the central caster completes his incantation, the spell automatically fails and he is stunned for a number of rounds equal to the number of casters in the ring.

CREATE FLAME

Casting Time: 1 Round Area of Effect: 3 inches in diameter

Effect:

The Pagos of Fire can cast this spell to create and maintain a small ball of flame approximately 3 inches in diameter. The flame is non magical and appears to dance about an inch above the casters hand although it does no damage to the caster it will cause wounds in others touching it. It behaves like a normal flame and can be used to light torches and the like. It gives off light equivalent to a torch and will last until the caster dispels it by closing and squeezing his hand.

N.B. If the casters hand is submerged in water this will cause the flame to be extinguished.

Effect:

This spell creates a spherical cloud of fog centred on a target. This can be a moving target and the fog will move with it or a stationary target such as a tree and the fog will remain stationary. The fog obscures vision (-1 per level to target number on all MIND observation checks)

Increase density (-1 per level to MIND checks) no change in area of effect

This spell allows the caster to create food and water equal to one days rations per level.

Effect:

This spell enables the caster to detect any magical radiation's apt 30 yds (90 ft) away in his field of view. The caster may also tell what type of magic created the radiation (Magus, Cleros or Pagos) and how long ago (1 Hr per level). The spell will not tell the caster what spell was cast nor who cast the spell.

Effect:

This spell enables a Pagos of Water to determine if an object (this can be 1 days rations of food and water) has been poisoned. The caster must make a MIND check Vs difficulty (target number modified by +1 per spell level) to ascertain if poison exists.

This spell bestows protection from normal environmental extremes on the desired target creature. The recipient also gets a +spell level bonus to any checks against attacks which manifest themselves in an elemental manner (burning blade, fireball, etc.) Pagos are restricted to operating in their opposite element i.e.:

Water: Endure Heat
Fire: Endure Cold
Air: Endure Suffocation (i.e.: lack of oxygen)
Earth: Endure Wind

Causes plants within 15 ft of the target to entangle anything in the area of effect. All Targets caught in the area of effect must make a Brawl check Vs spell level to resist being entangled to the floor. This spell causes no damage. Targets are held until spell expires.

Effect:

When this spell is cast it enables the recipient to travel through any terrain (depending on alignment) without leaving any tracks or scent. Pagos cannot pass without trace through terrain which is akin to their opposite element i.e.:

Water: Scents will travel through the air and smoke will be disturbed.
Air: Scents will travel through water and a wake will be created.
Fire: Scent will be left on the ground and footprints will be created.
Earth: Scent and tracks will be left in sand or in embers.
