YUSSUF'S JOURNAL: PART 1

Session: Arrival at Sankahar City

Game Date: 08 Mar 2002

It took a while for the PC's to be convinced that the magic carpet was safe to use, Klelithen just wouldn't use it at all. Bluff pricked him with one of the poisoned pygmy blow-darts, which he acquired from Golin Marc in exchange for a dagger, rendering him unconscious. Having loaded all the party onto the carpet they set off for Yussuf's home town of Sankahar City, the Capital of Sankahar. However Yussuf didn't tell his friends that he had been banished from the city by the Caliph 10 years ago for stealing the eye of Satire (Pr: Sat-ear).

When they arrived at the gates of the city having passed through the desert and nomad encampment near the outside walls, they were stopped by the city guards who refused Yussuf entry. He explained that he owed the PC's a life debt. The Guards relented saying that even the Caliph had to bow to the will of Allah, the Father of all creation, but he would be informed of Yussuf's entry into the city, should any transgression against Allah occur he and his friends would suffer his justice.

They then travelled into the city to the house of Yussuf's eldest sister, Sinine, in the court of the fountain of dancing sands. Yussuf was greeted as is appropriate for a brother lost and believed dead for some 10 years. The Party were greeted as honored guests.

Session: Sinine's Feast

Game Date: 05 Apr 2002

Sinine was most interested to find out what had happened to her brother in the ten years since she had seen him. Yussuf Explained that he had been banished from the city by the Caliph after their youngest sister Jamillia, a member of the Caliph's harem, had entreated the Caliph to be merciful to her brother. Yussuff's death sentence was commuted to banishment. Yussuf left the city in disgrace, but alive, and travelled to the coast finding work aboard a trading ship. Unfortunately the ship was attacked by a great sea monster, Yussuf survived and managed to get to a nearby desert island where he was finally picked up by a passing slave ship.

The assembled party then slept the night at Jamillia's house, to be woken early the next day by the Mezzeuin calling the city's faithful to prayer. After a quick breakfast of wafers and ripe goats cheese, everyone decided to visit the city's Casbah to try and acquire some maps in order to get them back to their respective homes. Much discussion ensued about what they had to trade until Golin Marc remembered that he still had the book that he'd found in the cave on the pygmies island. After cleaning off hundreds of years of lime-scale, and the two calcified magus' hands, they discovered that the books pages like the cover were made from sheets of beaten platinum. The writing, presumably spell incantations, were engraved into each of the pages. Sathlan Mossland began taking charcoal rubbings of each page to preserve their contents for future use. They then dressed in clothes more suitable for their hot, arid surroundings which were donated by Senine and began their journey to the Casbah.

Session: Rock The Casbah!

Game Date: 12 Apr 2002

Our assembled company left the home of my sister Sinine, and I led them through the city by one of my old escape routes from my dark past. It soon became clear, that this was not a good route to take so I led them to the animal road which stretches from animal gate to the Casbah, so called because it is the shortest and most direct route to the casbah and is used by many of the casbah's herdsman and exotic animal dealers. Once at the casbah, my friends began discussing what hte book was worth. In the open street this sort of talk would get us all killed so we decided to partake of refreshment and shade in the Camel of the Casbah, one of the eateries which surround the casbah. It was agreed that the Djinn Mabluk would visit each of the dealers I knew from my years in the city and give them a message granting them an audience with Multok of the Oasis of the White Palm. Each were given a specific time to call:

The Metal Dealer Buran 10:AM (9 balls + 4 fish)
The Art dealer Ibn Bashlik: 10:30 (10 balls + 2 fish)
The Relic Dealer Old Mustafah: 10:45 (10 balls + 3 fish)
The Art dealer Hassan Ibn Wassad: 11:00 (10 balls +4fish)
The magedealer Saleen: not invited.

Session: Adil and The Clay Seal

Game Date: 17 May 2002

Whilst waiting for Hassan Ibn Wassad to arrive the party noticed that the crowds that had filled the streets were starting to thin. Sathlan Mossland noticed an apparently insane beggar whose wailing had previously been drowned out by the crowd was staring madly at the party as they gathered at the table on the veranda of the Camel of the Casbah. The beggar lurched across the street and careened in to the group screaming madly, he then collapsed on the floor. When he came round he was lucid and explained to the party that he was in some way accursed and would gratefully tell them his story for a silver coin. The party summoned Abdul to refresh their food and drink, Abdil agreeing to tell them his tale in exchange for a good meal. When Abdul returned he told them that he was preparing to close the cafe and go to the mosque for prayers, recommending that they should also leave should their absence be discovered it would incur the wrath of the Caliph. The friends politely declined and Abdul against his better judgment agreed to leave them inside the cafe, but warned them to be quiet and not to attract any attention.

Abdil proceeded to tell them his tale. Three weeks ago he had been in Muluk, staking out the mosque of a thousand ? and had spotted a priest on his way home. Abdil could see that he wore a concealed purse which was begging to be relieved of it's contents. Abdil robbed the priest leaving him battered and bruised in a nearby ditch. When he had reached a safe distance he opened the purse only to find that it contained nothing more interesting than an old clay disk with some strange writing on it. After cursing himself for his impatience he decided to examine the disk, everything has a value. It was whilst he was examining the disk that he found himself reciting the strange writings on it's surface, even though he could not read them, he tried to stop himself but couldn't, magic was obviously at work.

It was at that exact moment that the ninefold stars fell from the sky, Abdil immediately knew that the prophesy was coming true even as he tried to prevent himself from uttering the final lines etched onto the disks surface. He then blacked out. His life since that day has been a nightmare. Blackouts, insanity, peppered with brief periods of lucidity waking up in places he's never visited. He can only assume that somehow he managed to cross the great desert from Muluk to Sankahar City.

Golin Marc thought he heard the doors rattle as if someone was testing them, he waited a while and then opened them. He was immediately blasted by a gust of wind that that pushed him aside flinging open both the doors. Abdil suddenly stood upright, his eyes rolled back into his skull and hurled himself into the air, flipping over onto his back and crashing through the table. Suddenly the shuttered doors directly in front of the table exploded in a shower of splinters. Klelithen and Multok checked Abdil to see if he was injured only to find that he was dead and that the talisman was missing. The friends then decided to hide the body, Sathlan Mossland having found a trapdoor leading to the cafe's cellar. Golin drew the short straw and hefted the body down the stairs. To cover up the trapdoor someone decided that moving the cast iron range from the wall over the trapdoor was a good idea.

It was at this point that two of the city guards on prayer patrol noticed that there was a hole in the cafe's shutters and assuming that this was evidence of a break in decided to investigate. They encountered the assembled heroes trying to hide the evidence. Unfortunately they were quite persistent in their questioning, Yussuf finally decided to show them Adil's body. The range was moved, the trapdoor opened and the guards were allowed to go down the stairs in to the cellar. Yussuf drew his sabre and clouted the second guard over the back of the head sending him tumbling forward onto the first. The trapdoor was then closed and the range put back. The Djinn Mabluk was despatched to find transport out of the city.

Immediately realising that the guards would be missed, and that their chances of escape from the city during prayer time were severely diminished without the guards uniforms as a disguise, they atttempted to render the guards unconcious using two of the pygmy blowdarts they had acquired. The range was moved again and the guards were warned that no harm would come to them if they acted sensibly. The guards attempted to rush the party, One was rendered paralysed by ???? the other unconcious by a well aimed concussive blow from Golin Marc's Axe. They were then disrobed tied up and thrown back down in to the cellar. The range was replaced and the party decided to move on, Yussuf leaving a note for Abdul as an explanation of what had occurred. In the meantime Mabluk had returned explaining that there were camels waiting for them outside the city at the tent of the nomad Askazar. Mabluk was immediately dispatched with Bluff to deal with Askazar. As Golin was about to leave he heard what he thought was Abdil's voice pleading to be let out, off came the range again and Golin cautiously opened the trapdoor. It was indeed a perfectly alive Abdil, he explained that this had happened before he knew that he had died but somehow the clay seal had brought him back to life. Not wanting to waste any more time Golin grabbed him by the hand and headed down the beast road after the others.

When the main party arrived at the beast gate they were casually quizzed by three guards when they spotted the captive Yussuf being led outside the city. Golin and Abdil fared less well the guards confused as to why they were intent on following an execution party. The Guards suddenly realised that something wasn't quite right and decided to apprehend the Golin and Abdil, Sathlan Mosslan began her incantation letting fly a particularly effective Blasting Bolt at the guard issuing orders to the young child raising the alarm from inside the tower. Golin Marc finally overpowered his assailant and with the help of Klelithen Barkring attacked the remaining guard. Their escape gained they dissapeared in to the tents which make up the nomad settlements outside the city.

Session: The Nomad City

Game Date: 24 May 2002

After the encounter at the beast gate the last thing anyone wanted to do was hang around and wait for more city guards to appear. Everyone rushed off into the Nomad encampment. At a safe distance Yussuf tried to buy some camels off a nearby trader, the nomad sensing an opportunity demanded 35 shek each for the camels Yussuf refused and when the price went up to 60 Shek Yussuf snapped. Slashing the nomad across the throat and receiving a stab wound in the guts for his trouble he rushed off, as best he could, in search of the rest of the party.

Bluff, concerned at the non appearance of his friends asked the djinn Mabluk if he could do anything. Mabluk went outside and floated above the tent inflating in size like a forming cloud. It wasn't long before the fleeing companions spotted this signal and rushed towards Alkazar's tent. Once inside Multok told the djinn to do something to cover their tracks. Mabluk promptly went outside, the sounds of howling wind and scouring sand could be heard for some time before he reappeared inside the tent.

Alkazar welcomed them as Allah demands, making food and drink available and showing them ever courtesy. During their initial discussions Adil suffered one of his fits. Alkazar was intrigued by Adil's mention of the Gates of Tabbadur and after some cajoling remembered that the great sorcerer priest responsible for imprisoning Tisan was Imam Suhail. He further speculated that whatever curse the poor unfortunate Adil was suffering may be cured at the shrine of Suhail min Zann some 3 days journey North East across the great desert.

Alkazar soon discovered that the assembled friends had nothing of value save for the mysterious "book" which they were reluctant to part with. It was finally agreed that he should receive 12.5% of the sale of the book in exchange for equipping them with all they would need for a three to six day journey across the great desert. If they failed to return, or failed to send an envoy, in 1 months time he would sell the book assuming that the party had been killed.

Session: The Journey to Suhail min Zann Begins

Game Date: 24 May 2002

The party finally set off an hour after dawn after getting acquainted with their strange and none too friendly riding beasts called camels. They are not far on the trail before they discover why they are called "ships of the desert" as Golin and Bluff succumb to the incessant motion and vomit. The camels don't seem too happy either and become restless. The party dismount and Bluff uses a whole waterskin to drink and wash himself down, much to Yussuf's chagrin as he barracks the dwarf for unnecessary use of the precious water. Klelithen replenishes Bluff's water with a prayer to Gaia. Golin has trouble remounting his camel even after casting an animal friendship spell eventually the camel runs off trampling golin in the process. He is bruised but otherwise unhurt. In order to get Golin on a camel in some way, Bluff brawls with him in an attempt to stab him with one of the poison darts. The comatose Golin is then strapped to a baggage camel where soon after continuing their trek he wakes up hog tied to the camel and promptly throws up.

At midday the party sets camp drinking the water and soaking their headdresses in an attempt to combat the effects of sunstroke. After breaking camp Yussuf spots an oasis corresponding to one marked on map called Wadi al Alhemeni about 2 hours ride away. Eventually the friends arrive at Wadi al Alhemeni, tie the camels to the five palm trees that surround the small watering hole and pitch their tent. After a hearty cooked meal they retire leaving Yussuf on first watch. Soon after Yussuf also falls asleep although only lightly and is awoken thinking he hears voices all around him...
