THE HEROES OF DUAL

HESE pages are dedicated to all the Player Characters who have adventured in the Lands of Dual to date, and to the players who made it possible, thanks to you all. If you can't see a picture of your character then you'd better get drawing, oh and whilst you're at it knock up a brief prehistory and a deity or two.

BOB THE DWARF (various players including Sarah & Rachel)

BIOGRAPHY:

OUR classic dwarven warrior, Bob moans all the time and when not moaning eats. Not famed for their cleanliness Bob is almost saintly by comparison, bathing once a year without fail. However, Bob is unlike most dwarven warriors in that she is a female! Not content with a life that would probably be spent tending her husbands homefires in the evening and digging for gems or metals with the dwardoe workparty during the day, she decided to cast off the bonds of her gender and find out what was above ground. Sadly she was caught escaping the dun the next day by a party of traders arriving with the goods they had bartered with the lowland humans. She was summarily found guilty of desertion by the Court of the Dun Council and exiled from the dun in order to maintain the delicate social balance between dwarf and dwardoe. After all, the last thing that the dun needed was a feisty dwardoe spreading dangerous ideas among the other placid females.

HIS peculiar stroke of good fortune meant that she was fully equipped to deal with whatever the outside world would throw at her before being being cast out of the Dun. Her father and six brothers ignored her and her mother wept, secretly for joy, as the assembled clan turned their backs in succession, as is their custom. It was not long before she was well on the way to her first encounters with the other races she had heard the traders tell tale of. She almost couldn't believe her eyes, how strange these humans were, all skin and bone and almost twice as tall as her. She soon found out however that they had little stamina when it came to drinking the strange watery honey brew that they made.

FTER several months she became acclimatised to life in the outside world, although sleeping under the stars was not to her liking, she enjoyed most human company and as they seemed to think that she was a male she decided to shorten her real name of Bowbertigg to Bob and to plait her beard in the style of Dwarf.

GLIMTHOR ITHELWYC (Paul "Detail" Stebles)

BIOGRAPHY:

LIMTHOR was born to Elissa and Aramas Ithelwyc. He spent his childhood growing up in the Anderida Forest. Both Elissa and Aramas were good friends with the local Mage, an Elf called Vestrom, a solemn elf, who rarely laughed or showed sign of emotion. Glimthor had a normal elven schooling, learning to work with nature as oppose to it. The whole of the town was comprised of clan Ithelwyc, and as such the community worked well together to perform all the day-to-day tasks, and many others.

HE village itself was a collection of wooden houses; many of the villagers were farmers and craftsmen, most had a useful trade to their name. As for Glimthor he grew up along-side the other children in the village, learning useful skills from all the local villagers. Both his parent had often expressed a strong interest in him becoming wise in the ways of magic. But at the time Vestrom already had an apprentice named Tarkum. Tarkum was not the average elf he used his magic to perform a variety of deeds, some being questionable. But one day, whilst his master was away gathering ingredients for his spells from the nearest town, he delved into one of his master's sacred tombs. Later that day a large explosion was heard from Vedrom's home, when the villagers ran to see what was wrong they found nothing but a scorched piece of ground where his home lay.

VER the coming weeks the villagers pooled together to build a new home for Vedrom, one person helping was Glimthor. Upon completion of the house Vedrom invited everyone in for a celebration. When the celebration drew to a close everyone departed, Glimthor was the only one left behind clearing up. That night the whole village heard a bellowing laugh come from Vedrom's house, from that day onwards Glimthor was to be his new apprentice. Glimthor studied and worked hard for several years. During these years there were visits to the town by several passers by, some of these around Glimthors age. He made friends with a few of them and they made plans to go out adventuring in the world once his master deemed him ready. A little while later on his 21st birthday his master gave him his very first spell to memorise. His master had taught him all that he could, it was time for Glimthor to go out into the world and travel to gain his own experiences. Glimthor was told to head towards his uncles home a few days travel away before leaving the forest. He set of with his band of friends and from there his first adventure stems....

REDD OF MARLTON-UPON-TAEN (David "Gob" Martin)

BIOGRAPHY:

EDD was born the second son of Durn, a miller from Marlton-upon-Taen, and his wife Clavil. Durn owned a mill on the outskirts of Marlton and was a prominent figure in the small town. One of his customers was a baker and bread merchant, Sylvas Baker. Sylvas had two daughters, Clavil and Tarla, upon whom he doted. Clavil used to help her father with the business of the bakery and in so doing became infatuated with the red-haired, large-framed Durn. They married and had two sons, Ardan and Redd. Both grew up well-loved by both their parents, but sadly became rivals thanks to their father's favour for his eldest son. Ardan was a tall, solid youth with the uncommon black hair he had inherited from his mother, whilst Redd was far shorter and unremarkable. Redd the younger son by four years became his mother's companion on her many trips to the outlying farmers to procure new mill business, giving him the wanderlust that his brother lacked being his father's heir and only employee.

OW in his early teens Redd also worked in his uncle Sylvas's bakery. However, this did not sit well with the young lad and the rivalry between himself and Ardan intensified, particularly when at nineteen he fought his brother for the attention of Bethony Wright, an eligible daughter of Marcus Wright the principal wheelwright and carriage builder in Marlton-on-Taen. Ardan won her heart and married her and the rivalry between both brothers apparently disappeared. This pleased both their parents, but below the surface Redd's hatred burned like an oven. Faced with a life constantly overshadowed by his elder brother and haunted by the thought of what could have been Redd vowed to make a name for himself, one that would make him worthy of his father's pride and his brother's jealousy.

IS parents gave Ardan and Bethony the mill as a wedding present and then purchased an inn which they renamed "The Taen Mill". Redd helped out in the Tavern and continued on in the bakery, saving his money and hiring the services of a mercenary warrior, Lenn of Brinton. He learned the skills of swordsmanship and bowcraft, as well as building his own strength and speed, but Lenn also taught him the importance of strategy and that honour and glory were more important than winning the battle, they became firm friends. At 21, Redd's training had been going for nearly a year when Lenn needed to return home to his family. Redd journeyed with him to the next town where they said their farewells in a night of drinking and merriment before Redd returned home alone.

RAGEDY greeted Redd when he returned, his father was dead! Durn had been drinking rather heavily the night before and had retired early, when Clavil finally retired she found him fighting for his life. She summoned both her sons to ease Durn's final hours, he died that night, clutching Ardan's hand and gasping for Redd. As Redd stood at his father's bedside the next day his mother was distraught but Ardan was furious, he verbally attacked Redd and called him a "wastrel, a knave and diabolical, rather to drinking than watch his father die!". Redd struck Ardan and a fight broke out in which Redd was the victor, as his mother cried holding the unconscious Ardan she begged Redd to leave and to return only when he had resolved his internal conflict. Seeing this as a dismissal from her life Redd fled to the back-streets and alleyways of Marlton's poorer district, sleeping in damp cold places under the stars until a Cleros of Shayleth found him and asked him to speak to him of his ills.

EDD told the Cleros, Moldon, of his distress and anger, who then offered to help Redd by giving him some food and shelter in return for a helping hand with the temple roof. Redd agreed and worked with Moldon for a month, becoming aware of the teachings of Shayleth and taking her as his deity. He regained his composure and with a heavy heart returned to his mother to find she had given the leasehold* of the tavern to his fathers brewer and friend, Brannad Dwyle. Clavil had moved in with Ardan and Bethony and their new-born son, Durn. Clavil was reconciled with Redd, however, Ardan shunned him telling him that he was not welcome in his house. Selling what little possessions he had and determined to seek fame, fortune and honour as an adventurer, he left Marlton-upon-Taen vowing to return a hero. Aged 21 Redd left Marlton heading South. He has had many adventures and met many people, some of which have became firm friends, his skill at sword and bow proving most useful and he has discovered he has a talent for finding his way, he now seeks glory, fortune and honour with only the road before him.

*The leasehold is on condition that upon Clavil's death if Redd decides to marry the tavern will pass to him. Ardan will be the deedholder until that time. Ardan knows of the leasehold clause, but has not disclosed the clause to Redd, nor is he likely to.

KLELITHEN BARKRING (Dave "Fairy" Fownes)

BIOGRAPHY:

Born in Wraithengar Forest in the valley of Camborne, Klethin is a woodelf and displays all the common traits of wood elves, his hair changes colour according to the seasons (white in light blonde in spring, strawberry blonde in summer, red in autumn and white in winter), his skin has a pale green tinge to it. He was called at an early age by Gaia to serve in her order of light. He is an adult elve having lived some 274 human years although he looks only 34. His father, Sakron and Mother, Ethril also gave him a younger younger brother, known as Crysanere, he's about 114 and still uncertain of what future path he should travel.

"I had been travelling from Tresos to Boreana to perform a funeral service for a hunter killed in an accident and had stopped off at my home village to stay the night. Before I resumed my journey I visited the shrine to Gaia I had built as a child, in order to practice morning worship. My meditation was disturbed by the sounds and smells of a camp nearby, my curiosity peaked, I came down from the tree to investigate. This was where I was unfortunately taken captive by a band of slaver pirates. And so begins my tale..."

SATHLAN MOSSLAND (Linda "Pickles" Fownes)

BIOGRAPHY:

Sathland Mossland Born in Kelestion under the 1st moon in the 3rd Month of the 4th year in the 21st Cylcle of ????????. Her mother was a human called Catherine, her father an elf called Lionden in Elysum. Catherine met Sathland's father whilst travelling in Elysum with her parents, they had a love passion for 10 days of the 3rd moon. However, Lionden's elftribe did not want their brother having anything to do with a human, and so they sent Catherine and her parents back to Panacelsius. When they reached home they discovered that Catherine was pregnant, when the baby was born they demanded that it be adopted to avoid the shame.

And so it was that Sathlon was adopted by the mages of Panacelsius and brought up by their servants. When she was 5 years old she found her way into the mages, by the time the servants found her, several hours later, they discovered that she'd mastered the first basic spell taught to the apprentices almost twice her age. Sathlan remained with the mages and learnt their skills for the next fifteen years.

Although initially it seemed that she had prodigious talent, she reached puberty at 10 and her elven parentage began to slow the natural ageing process as the years went by her aptitude seemd to wane. The mages who were fond of Sathlon,at times treating her like a daughter, did not want to appear heartless and so they agreed to help her set up a stall selling charms in the local market, something in which her lesser path skills could be used. With a promise of aid in the future should she need it she left the mages never to return.

MULTOK sun WASEM of SUKIN (Johnathon "Veto" Oggles )

BIOGRAPHY:

Multok is one of two surviving sons of Wasem of Sukin, a merchant dealing in precious minerals (mainly Jade) from the islands kingdom of Illius. Multok and his twin brother Kalzoon, commonly called Kaz, were always found together. Multok, the mischief one often took on more than he could handle, but Kaz was always there to get him out of trouble. At a very early age Multok was thrown from a horse and nearly died, since that day he has rarely riden any horses. They both shared a passion for hunting where they gained great skill in the art of archery.

Kaz though Multok was irresponsile, selfish and didn't care about anything, whereas he saw himself as a man of principles, although In his mid teens it was his principles that got him into a fight with Taxras. He tried to get him to calm down but Taxras pushed on and in a fit of temper Taz challenged Taxras to a duel. As the challenged party Taxras could choose weapons and he choose fighting sticks, a weapon with which Kaz had little skill. The result of the duel was the death of Kaz and Multok swore vengeance.

For the next few years nothing is generally known about Multok, as he disappeared and although his father tried to find him he was unsuccessful. Around 5 years had passed since his disappearance when he walked into his father's home as if he'd never been gone. He was greeting with open arms by Wasem, the old man having given over the running of the family business to his eldest son Astrid. It was decided that Multok would move to the town Kilkenny on the north western coast of the island, here he would handle the craftsmen, selling and transportation of the finished jade products.

In Kilkenny he showed that he was still had a strike of mischief in him, but he had become a bit of a loner. He had little evening visitors and rumors quickly spread that he often entertained women in his home and he often visited houses of ill repute. However, when it came to business he proved to be capable of running the business, but did not demostrate vision or flare.

Last year a scandal shook the close knit society of wealthy citizens of Kilkenny when it became common knowledge that Mirad the wife of Taxras was seen in a house of ill repute and not as client. Although it could not be proven, the rumor mongers also claimed that is was Multok who first introduced her to the house and encouraged her to keep going.

Upon hearing this Taxras was forced to challenged Multok to a duel. As the challenged party Multok choose fighting sticks and to everyone surprise Taxras lost and although he survived was crippled and unable to walk. Honour dictated that Taxras must throw out his wife for the disgrace she had brought on him, after which he lived alone the only company he had was that which he could buy.

Since then Multok became more responsible and openly friendly where he had previously disregarded casual company. The citizens of Kilkenny, seeing this lighter, friendlier side repayed it in kind. However, there is still a side fo Multok that very people have seen or would like see, this is the part that he keeps hidden.

He was banished from Sankahar City by the Caliph 10 years ago after he was caught stealing the eye of Satire (Pr: Sat-ear) a priceless gemstone which had taken pride of place in the Caliph's harem. The Caliph was none too pleased at having his guards chase this thief for three days across the desert. However, Yussuf's youngest sister, Sinine (Pr: Sin-e-nee), who was a member of his harem, persuaded the Caliph to be particularly merciful in Yussuf's punishment.

He is the second son of Ahmed and Belakan, who also sired three younger daughters, his eldest brother and second youngest sister died when they were children leaving Yussuf the heir to his fathers meagre wealth. When his father died his sister Jamillia (Pr:Jam-e-lee-ah) inherited as Sinine could not hold any wealth as a member of the Caliph's Harem. Jamillia had been betrothed to a trader since she was twelve and they were happily married for some years until her husband was murdered.
