REANTS
are a race of sentient treefolk, who are ambivalent to all but the longest
lived of the
humanoid
races, the elves. They are solitary creatures and territorial individuals
who inhabit the deepest of the great forests such as Anderida, in Newhon.
Consequently the chances of them being encountered are uncommon and
even the elves who often share the same habitat have no plural word
for treant. The treant's physical characteristics such as size, age
and thickness are dependent on what local climate / tree species they
originate from.
Willowent
(Treantus salix):
Typically growing upto 60ft tall willowent Inhabit riversides. They
have shallow roots and therfore are the quickest of the treant species.
Their spells tend to be of the healing variety. Characteristically open
to new ideas and suggestible, they suffer from "mood swings" and their
opinions are often as changeable as the winds. Bar the Ashent they are
most likely to interact with humans and other creatures (Interaction
chance 30%).
Oakent
(Treantus quercales):
Growing upto 120ft tall these treant inhabit temperate lowland regions
with moderate precipitation. Spells tend to be of the creative variety
with solid immutable effects. They can be dismissive of humans and other
creatures however they are protective of all living things within their
habitat and react violently towards anyone with hostile intentions towards
another creature. (Interaction chance 15% (60% if combat occurs within
sight or hearing)).
Redwent
(Treantus sequoia):
The tallest oldest and sturdiest of ents growing up to 300ft high. Inhabit
cold precipitous climates between 1,500 and 2500 ft above sea level.
They are extremely deep rooted and itwill rarely uproot themselves.
Spells tend to be of the creative variety with permanent effects. Characteristically
stubborn they respect tradition particularly that of elves and giantkin
and dislike change. They are least likely to interact with humans and
others (Interaction chance 5% (15% if an elf or giant addresses them
by name)).
Palment
(Treantus Arecales):
This species of treant can grow upto 100ft high and they inhabit warm
tropical climates at sea level, but can be found around water sources
in desert environments. They have shallow roots and are know to move
aound from time to time. Spells tend to be creative type spells of the
food/shelter variety. Lofty and ambitious in character they tend towards
foolishness and can often be tricked or persuaded into giving assistance
(Interaction chance 20%).
Birchent
(Treantus Betula):
Upto 100ft high, inhabit cold lowland climates and are found in arctic
regions. Spells tend towards mutational magic with temporary effects.
They have changeable and irritable natures (Interaction chance 10%)
Ashent
(Treantus Fraxina):
Upto 60ft tall, inhabit temperate regions. The most vain of the treant
species it will often be found in the middle of clearings as it smothers
the other tree and plant species, particularly other ash trees, around
it. Spells tend towards the illusory. They are most receptive when flattered
and can become angry if other creatures are ambivalent towards them
(often interacting first if ignored), their conversation always turns
towards themselves and see most of what happens around them although
trying to get this information out of an Ashent can be an arduous task.
(Interaction chance 30% (60% if ignored)).
Firent
(Treantus Abies):
Growing upto 100ft tall firent inhabit cold mountainous regions. They
are receptive, helpful and good natured creatures but often require
humans to solve a riddle or conundrum. Their spells tend to be creative
assistance variety. Often likely to interact with humans and other creatures
(Interaction Chance 25%).
OT
much is know about their social habits, it is uncommon for treant to
interact with any creatures due to their different perspective of time,
most other creatures move and talk too fast for treant to be concerned
with them (in the same way that humans and insects co-exist). Elves
have conversed the most with treant, but a racial stereotype is hard
to prove as each treant comes from different tree stock and has many
of it's common traits. It is elven lore that they pair for mating and
have mass gatherings but this has never been observed.
