CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ATHLETES

Athletes will:-
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of other athletes and coaches and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability
  • Not swear
  • Take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Inform their coach before training if the have an injury or are feeling unwell
  • Always be aware of other athletes on or around the track with a view to minimising accidents
  • Always follow the rules of fair play and never violate rules or use prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance and show respect towards other athletes and officials
  • Keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
  • Pay any fees for training or events promptly.
  • Wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.

Athletes must not switch coaches within the Club without the consent of their existing coach


 

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR COACHES

Coaches will:-
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability
  • Place the welfare and safety of the athlete above the development of performance.
  • Develop appropriate working relationships with athletes (especially under 18’s), based on mutual trust and respect. They will not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
  • Encourage and guide athletes to accept and take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Be appropriately qualified and update their licence as and when required by UK Athletics.
  • Ensure that the activities they guide or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual.
  • At the outset, clarify with athletes (and where appropriate their parents or carers) exactly what is expected of them and what athletes are entitled to expect from the coach.
  • Co-operate fully with other colleagues (e.g. other coaches, officials, team managers, sport scientists, doctors, physiotherapists and governing body staff) in the best interests of the athlete.
  • Consistently promote positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone rule violations or the use of prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Not smoke in the vicinity of athletes
  • Assist in the selection of teams.
  • Travel to competitions with the junior team(s)

 

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS & CARERS

Parents & Carers will:-

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete and coach and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability.
  • Make every attempt to deliver athletes in time for the start of training sessions and meetings
  • Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results
  • Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all
  • Support your childs involvement and help them to enjoy their sport
  • Never force your child to take part in sport nor punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes
  • Encourage and guide athletes to accept and take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Not smoke in the vicinity of athletes.

  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Not coach their child or any other athlete whilst at the track without the permission of a Club coach

 

Track Etiquette for all

  • Only athletes should be using the track during training sessions
  • If non athletes wish to keep fit by walking around the track please use the concrete path on either the inside or the outside of the track
  • If using these areas please be aware that field events maybe taking place as well
  • All athletes should be aware that the track can be a very dangerous place and hence when not running on the track, please be aware that others will be, and their run should not be obstructed
