Manga and Comics
This section contains pictures and comic strips that I have drawn in my free time. I've been drawing cartoons in a manga style since I was about 10 years old and I still really enjoy it. I got into manga because I really loved some of the Japanese cartoons that where shown on the TV when I was younger so my style of drawing and layouts have been highly influenced by this.
Poster Style Images Theses are pictures of cartoons I have drawn but are not sequel comics. Here I have used a variety of different media. Newest to oldest. Please click the thumbnails to enlarge the images.

Sequel/Comics These are the sequel comics I have completed. Newest to oldest.
2008
Lunch Break February - March 2008 This short story was created on a long and fairly stressful train ride. I wrote the story as I went along rather than scripting it. I then took the opportunity to try something new on Photoshop and experiment with colour lines. I'm quite pleased with the result but it takes quite a bit of extra time.

The boy who lost his face November 2007 - January 2008 This was a 4 page long comic I created for fun and also practice. I tried concentrating on some of the areas which people had pointed out while giving critique to my previous comics. I worked a little bit on character designs, camera angles, composition and foreshortening. This is also my first comic to be completed in full colour.

Why Bird single comic page August - October 2007 This was a one off comic I wrote and doodled quickly. I then neatened the page up on manga studio. This page was made for practice and not for any competitions.

Rising Stars of Manga UK and Ireland 3 Competition Entry: The Oath of Wolf Rathbone Collaboration: Laura Mc Nulty August - September 2007 This was for Tokyopop's Rising Stars of Manga UK and Ireland 3. This manga was 20 pages and it was the first time I worked on anything larger than 6 pages. The Story was written by Laura McNulty. Laura also edited the story and wrote the script. I used Manga Studio EX for the inking and screen tone.

Manga Jiman Competition Entry: Geisai #13 August - September 2007 This was a competition entry for The Manga Jiman Competition ran by The Embassy of Japan. This competition didn't have a certain theme, but the entry had to in some way reference Japan. For this entry I set the story in Japan and focused Japanese Pop Artists. Doing the research for this manga was very interesting. I used Manga Studio EX for the inking and screen tone.

Manga Jiman Competition Entry: Fish tank August - September 2007 This was also a 6 page manga for The Manga Jiman Competition. The competition didn't have a specific theme, but the entry had to in some way reference Japan. I chose to place the story in a Japanese classroom, but add a hint of fantasy to the story. I improved quite a bit between making this comic and the previous comic because here I used the computer program Manga Studio EX.

Graphic Short Story Prize Competition Entry: "Slavery, never heard of it." August 2007 This was a 1 page comic for a Competition. Unfortunately this story isn't short enough for a page and the whole thing is very crammed. This was made along side creating the 2 Manga Jiman competition entries, and was one of my first attempts using Manga Studio for inking and screen tone.

Neo Competition Entry: Statistically Infrequent Collaboration: Laura McNulty July 2007 This manga was made for a competition Neo Magazine held. I collaborated with Laura McNulty who wrote and edited the script. I drew the line art using fine liners and I used free screen tone. Unfortunately I used a low resolution, so the screen tone and over all quality of the pages is quite bad but I learned a lot while making this comic.

Why Buy Fair trade Bananas? March 2007 This was the first comic/manga I've ever got around to completing. It was made for a event that ran at my church to raise a higher awareness of fair trade to the local community. This comic was specifically targeted at children. I drew this using fine liner pens and black marker and the lettering was added digitally.
