I have written various pieces for the
A SubGenius, Discordian
Pope (aren't we all?) and FreeThinker
your terms) magazine,
Maybe Logic Academy . I also contribute routinely to the group blog, Maybe
Quarterly , which I helped set up. I have probably written several
thousands of words, contributing to the related forums and online courses
for the MLA.
I really enjoyed writing up an idea of Bobby's (that he illustrated for
me) - Magical
Means - a meeting of mind
Kinds of Magic got posted in the blog, whereas the following appear in
the more permanent magazine:
That, and You'll Believe Anything (an appreciation of an online course
on the book Illuminatus! with the author Robert Anton Wilson as
on Deaf Ears - a collaboration with an artist and fellow student,
Bobby, relating to what we had learned about Vico's theory of cyclic time
when reading Finnegans Wake.
Piece - my own compilation of material on different ways of
perceiving time - as linear or cyclic, etc.
Wouldn't Want to Play Cards with Him - a piece bringing together my
obsessions with randomness, games and cheating, conjuring and the history
of playing cards and Tarot, and printing, and...
Assuming - a deliberately brief piece, about how assumptions can lead us
up the garden path...
Zone - my take on Buddhism and a god-free respect for the world
and the Holy Grail
(the student bar at the Academy)
courses - and Bogus MLA courses (accept no substitute)
Detection ... which I expanded from the blog into a piece for the
permanent magazine, and called it...
Mind Playing Tricks On Itself
Way With Words - related to RAW's material on the Ideogrammic
Surrealism and Duchamp - a quote from one of my heroes, Marcel Duchamp.
I also update an incomplete
, which you might find an
amusing way to browse through the kind of subjects we find interesting, and
discuss at the Academy. Imperfect
Index to both Only Maybe and Maybe Quarterly
Most recently I finished writing a 50,000 word novel in a month, as part
NaNoWriMo marathon - called Foolproof.
Material written for juggling and arts magazines, when I was performing,
teaching and generally promoting circus skills.

Writing about my friend Mick Swain, and the edited work I did on his papers
after he died. Click here for work in progress.
Also a few bits of my own writing that came out of Mick and
me writing to each other. I was quite into film noir (lone white
knight and all that). Like " Suspended Animation"
(we were both desperately poor and 'stuck' - you can tell). And, after a
conversation about Mick's lucid dreaming, I tried to explain how I hardly
ever remember dreams, just shut my eyes, and then open them again hours
later "Coming Round Again". And
"Intimations of Mortality II", about
my early years, getting grounded with archaeology.
My own favourites of my photos
- often from old prints, etc

papers, etc. Click

not for a long while now!)
