ALAN SIMPSON - Biography - 1977 to 2001

From 1977, following a distinguished career with RAY GALTON for 25 years, Alan took a sabbatical to enjoy more time with his football club, gourmet eating and wine tasting whilst driving round France, and guest speaking at functions of all sorts including Football Player of the Year dinners, Testimonials, Wembley Cup Final Lunch, Dinners for various sports, and functions for Computer Dealers, Stationers, Banking and Insurance Institutes etc.

Alan has been a lifelong supporter of Brentford Football Club, and was a regular commentator from the stand for the local Hospital and Blind Association until 1967, when he was created President of Hampton Football Club. He has missed very few home or away matches for Hampton since then. He is also President of Hampton Cricket.

In March 2000 Alan with Ray Galton proudly stepped up to receive their Millennium O.B.E. honours.

During the last 20 years or so Ray and Alan have collaborated on adapting or advising on projects round the world based on their two classic series STEPTOE AND SON and

HANCOCK’S HALF HOUR. They have just finished a HANCOCK/FLEKSNES script which will complete a period of nearly 30 years of production of that series in Scandinavia when it is filmed in Autumn 2001.
