Teasel came from James Mayes on Thursday 28th August 1997

She was about six weeks old when she arrived (born July 2nd 1997), toilet trained and very fluffy. Her fur is a mixture of white and light brown. James provided a choice of two kittens remaining from a litter of four his cat had produced; the other kitten was equally nice, but apparently a bit less outgoing. She is due to go to a new home very soon.

Teasel hated her box and the trip home, and by the time she arrived at the house she was running up and down the box and clawing the bars wildly. As soon as she was let out she calmed down and started to purr.. a good sign! She thoroughly investigated her new home before we left her for the night with some bedding, a litter tray, food and water.

Once she realised she was on her own for the night she started to mew and seemed quite upset. Given that she was away from her familiar surroundings, her mother and her sister, this was quite understandable; after settling her down again she seemed less agitated.

The second day she seemed much happier.. until bedtime! After that there was a frenzy of mewing, clawing the door and (eventually) hurling herself against it!

The following night there was only a brief mewing, so hopefully she was getting used to the idea...

On October 10th 1997 she managed somehow to get up on the worktop, find some pills and eat one... she was jolly sick, and caused no end of worry, but no harm seems to have been done.

On January 23rd 1998 she had the snip.. She had her annual checkup in September 1999 and the vet was pleased with her condition. Her likes and dislikes remain much the same, and she's stopped growing. She is definitely less manic, and I hope she feels at home.

To enable me to go away for weekends without troubling my neighbour, Teasel now has her very own automatic cat stuffer.

Unfortunately Teasel has found out how to operate the 'pet-proof' lock on the cat stuffer and scoff the lot! I have strenghtened the spring, but it remains to be seen whether this puts her off. When I called the manufacturers they said they'd never heard of a cat doing that before..
