Disabled adaptions in the home -WORK ON THIS PAGE IS still in progress 9.12.2006

DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION THAT WE CAN ADD TO THESE PAGES OR IF YOU HAVE RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW

If you need work on your home in order for you to continue to live in your own home who pays for this ?.

The government of the UK has passed legislation (Pos word for law ) to provide for this and you can apply for this through your local council.

Some members of  Becker United  have had through floor lifts , hoists and ramps provided for them to continue living as normal a life as possible.

I work full time pay tax and have never had any adaptions to my home but it is good to know that if I need it there will be funding available. We should never feel guilty about applying for things if you need it then apply for it.

There are many types of adaptions that can be made at home they may include

  • Access Ramps
  • Handrails
  • Stairlifts
  • Through floor lifts
  • Disabled Toilets
  • Showers

Disabled Facilities Grant
This is a mandatory grant made under the provisions of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, (the 1996 Act) as amended by the Regulatory Reform (Housing Assistance) (England and Wales) Order 2002, and is available for a range of works needed to help a disabled person to remain living more independently in their home. This grant is also available to owners of park homes/mobile homes requiring disabled adaptations. The grant is for:

*                           essential works to give better freedom of movement into and around the home;

*                           access to essential facilities within the home;

*                           the provision of essential facilities where necessary;

*                           certain works to make the dwelling or building safe for the disabled occupant and other persons residing with them.

The Government Document regarding building regulations for new buildings Document M details requirements for  access for the disabled but to those of us needing this help we leave that up to the builders
