Figgy (left) was rescued from a dirty little hutch in her previous owners garden. She had no fur on her little body which was the result of her not being fed properly.
She was passed by so many times at the rescue because she attacked other ferrets and most people wanted more than one ferret so it made it difficult for her to fit in anywhere. She had been there for so many months that Rose decided to let me foster her.
It has been a slow job but gradually she has learnt to accept my other ferrets and now shares a hutch with them, even though she still likes to sleep in her own little corner.
It is a great achievement for her as she had to have her own hutch when she first came to us.
I have plenty of time to spend with the ferrets and feel that I am helping the rescue in a small way as well as having Figgy to love and care for,

Benny ( right) was picked up as a stray and was really thin and suffered muscle waste.
Rose got his strength up before getting him neutered and then he was brought to me to take over. He has been eating so well now he has got over his op and it’s so nice to see him filling out. It’s so nice when I go into the kitchen and he follows me to see what meat treats that I have in there for him.
He has a beautiful nature and loves all of the other ferrets and settled in with them straight away.
The reason that he couldn’t be adopted is that he has strange purple lumps inside his ears. It’s something that cats get and if they were to get knocked they could end up bleeding. They slightly resemble varicose veins, but they aren’t a problem to him except that you have to be careful not to rub his ears when giving him a fuss.
I also live near to the vet which the rescue uses so it only takes about twenty minutes or less to walk if there is any problem at all with the fosters.
Thank heaven there are rescues like Mercia that Rose and Arthur run. They never turn any ferret away whatever the reason that they end up there and will also do their best to make sure that the people and homes that they are going to will be good ones.
I feel privileged o be allowed to foster some of these loveable little creatures and also to have four of my own that I have adopted.
