got down to Hever Castle nice and early to set up the F Register stall and
the weather looked promising -the sun peeking through and it was quite
warm. That would all change by lunchtime when grey skies descended and persistent
drizzle crept in and the water dripped off the top of the gazebo into our
upturned collars.
Before that there were about twenty Fs and TFs on the field. It was good to meet some of the owners who came over to say hello at the F Register stall but sadly some of them seemed to studiously ignore us despite a huge F Register flag and JayPeG on display. To try and make the event a bit more F Friendly we held a "Working" class Pride of Ownership competition whereby all the F/TF's NOT on display or entered in the MGCCSE POO or concours were judged. Each F owner was given a form to write down their annual mileage and how often they used the car to help the judging - some of them actually filled these in and left them on the cars - Thanks to those that did. It was a difficult decision but before too long Liz and I had whittled it down to three cars and finally we plumped for the silver TF of Barry West. He was duly awarded his trophy at the end of the day, unfortunately thanks to the rain most of the Fs had gone by that time ! We also including a voting slip given to all F owners to vote for their favourite F of the day (that was not their own of course !) A fair percentage of owners returned them and TimM's car on the stand won the public vote. That meant he had to award the "F of the Show" trophy to himself ! Regular SEFers Barry and Sue had entered their green F in the self judged MGCCSE Pride of Ownership and came in third place. Other SEFers on the day included Dave Livingstone who became intrigued by the history of the castle and grounds but managed to have a quick look at the cars as well. TimJ and Rebecca turned their backs on the F for the day and arrived in his freshly T cutted 1966 MGBGT instead ! After a promising start the day petered out a bit thanks to the weather so we closed the stall early and had a look around Hever castle ourselves.
