MG80

SILVERSTONE INTERNATIONAL

23 - 24th July 2004

What a great weekend - loads of SEFers turned up for the MG80 celebrations at the MGCC Silverstone International.. Highlight was the saturday evening barbecue in conjunction with SWMGF and the BBS. Bob borrowed some of Her Majesty's camouflage netting and tent to add to Dave Morris's enclave and Welsh flags flapping in the wind. With the Barbie stoked up Bob and Jon got to work intent on searing as many pieces of meat as possible to try and feed the 100 or so people that turned up to breach Her Majesty's peace with - they did a great job to the tune of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and deservedly quenched their thirst from the big bucket of iced beer. It was good to meet up with some of the "faces" from the BBS and other organisations particularly gratifying to see that the MG Club of Antwerp made the effort all the way from Belgium and the large presence presence of Scotty from Germany was vying with Scarlet Fever's Andy Phillips. Too many people there to name them all but from the South East came Stu, Bob, TimM & Liz, Neil S, Thelma & Louise, Don, Steve R, Dave L, Pip & Mrs Pip, AndyBates & Caroline and probably a couple more. Other names included Jerry Flint from X Power forums, Victoria & Bill from the MGF Centre , Paul Lathwell & Sue in their His and Hers TFs from the dotcomoff website along with Dave Clelland and the Scottish Contingent and of course Dave Morris and the Welsh clan. Other SEFers included Barry & Sue who put in a stirling effort trying to get flags in to cones in the Gymkhana and DaveM and Heather who came down on the sunday. TimM entered the Pride of Ownership and came away with the Class Winner Trophy for the second year running. Elsewhere the TF racing was hotly contested resulting in a four car pile up at Copse Corner leading to a restart - Gery Hirons brought down Goldenwheels as well as his V8 BGT Police Car from Scotland. A truly international event with not only the Belgium contingent in the F Register parking but many other number plates from European Countries including Denmark and German.

As the Bar B Q dwindled in to the small hours fireworks lit the sky over the race track bringing the night to a close as the clouds came in and the evening grew chilly. A fantastic weekend - can't wait for next year !
