New Comic Book project

Artist Paul Barrand and writer Tim Haq have been brought together again by World Arts Gallery for their exciting new project .

Comic XFactor brings together the team that developed Flavours of Leicester the city's first ethnic comic book.
Funded by Connecting Communities Plus the new comic book will be based around the theme of Racism and Extremism.
Tim adds: "We have been running workshops with a group of young students from Crown Hills Community College encouraging them to devise storylines around the themes of racism and extremism."
"It has opened up a lot of debate," he said. "The group is quite diverse and they have used their imagination to work up their own storylines around the themes. They have developed two or three main strands, including one on language and whether people should learn English when they come to live here."

World Arts Gallery has always seen itself as a social enterprise and worked on the principals of Fair Trade. As well as ensuring heritage and craft skills were brought back into use, we have ran a number of workshops to bring that knowledge to a wider and diverse audience. We felt we had gone as far as we could as a vountary organisation. Therefore the decision was taken to make World Arts Gallery a more professional organisation. As of September, World Arts Gallery became a not-for-profit social enterprise cooperative company limited by guarantee.

Our shop on Hinckley Road has been completely refurbished with new furniture designs as well as a large range of hand crafted musical instruments, made by musicians in the centuries old tradional methods.

We have updated our website and will be looking to develop it as an e-commerce site as soon as resources allow. You comments as always are greatly appreciated.

LOVE SEATS and SETTEES: A new addition this year is our collection of Chaise Lounges (LOVE SEATS) made specially for us. These chairs used to be a great favourite with Mughal Emperors but went out of fashion. Now back due to popular demand. We also have a nice selection of chairs, settees and three piece suites.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: Traditional Ethnic music instruments made by musicians with love and affection. We have a large range of musical instruments including Tabla Sets, Dholkis, Ongo Bongos, Chimtas, Didgeridoos and the ever popular Hand Drum shown here made out of hand beaten brass - these are available in two sizes starting from £50.

HANDCARVED TABLES and STOOLS: We have a large selection of hand made and carved tables and stools of all sizes for all occassions. I am sure we have something for everyone. This lovely stool with leather cushion is only £75.
