Background

World Arts Gallery started more than 15 years ago on a trip to Pakistan. We tried finding some of the beautiful handcrafted funiture that was so popular when we lived there in the 1960s. It was very difficult. On further investigation we found that many of the traditional craft skills were being lost as people were moving to the cities to find jobs there.

We started dialogue with a number of craftsmen who were keen to ensure their skills were passed on to future generations and their products were showcased around the world. In 1997 World Arts Gallery became a reality when it opened a shop on Hinckley Road, Leicester.

Over the past nine years friendships were formed with craftsmen manufacturing and supplying a unique range of hand crafted furniture made exclusively from top quality wood found only in the foothills of the Himalayas. As awareness increased about the products and demand increased more people returned to learn skills that had almost been lost using tools that you would only find in museums in the Western world.

Just as the handcrafted furniture business was becoming a recognised industry in Pakistan, the Earthquake of 2005 struck completely destroying the two cities of Balakot and Muzzafarabad from where a large number of our highly skilled craftsmen came.

The tragedy of that day has been shown all over the world and aid provided, but what our friends, the ones that survived, told us was that they did not want charity, they wanted help in establishing their businesses again so that they can provide jobs and training for their neighbours and once again be self sufficient.
Each and every item of our furniture has been specifically designed and produced to our own exacting standards demanded by the sophisticated buyer in the West, whilst maintaining the charm and authenticity of furniture crafted by hand.

After years of research and production development, all of our furniture is guaranteed by us to meet the same standards of build quality and materials used as depicted in our product catalogue. Every piece of our furniture is hand crafted only from solid, top quality wood that has been hand finished with natural wax to enhance and reveal the natural beauty of the wood's own grain.
