Hey
guys, my name is Gary. I’ve
been working with Threshold for just over a month now and I totally
love my
job. I have to say that I never thought of myself doing a job like this
even
though my mother pointed out at the age of 12 that I should look into
doing
care work (I guess that was the first time God started to send me
hints).
[top

page]I have lived in Law village all my life (so if I don’t know Hamilton very well, that’s why). From the 4th of August 1981 to be exact, so for all you budding mathematicians out there that makes me around 42; erm I mean 24. At the moment I attend church at Calvary Glasgow where I play bass guitar in the worship team and do a lot of the technical mumbo jumbo. Some of you might remember me as the sound guy from Calvary Motherwell or even the short chubby specky guy from Law Parish. I went to high school at Carluke High and then I went on to study an HND in Electronics with Music Technology at Coatbridge College, which lead onto an Honours Degree in Audio Technology with Multimedia at Glasgow Caledonian University. I had my heart so set on becoming an audio engineer that after that I did a year at the School of Audio Engineering in Glasgow but it seems that God has different plans for me. When I finished with all my studying I found that there weren’t many jobs for audio engineers in Glasgow so I quickly found myself working in a supermarket in Wishaw. People kept telling me about Threshold but I never thought of myself as a people person until I started to help with my friends youth group in Shotts of all places. I found myself teaching my own group and once I had gotten used to it my confidence grew. Soon the name Threshold appeared again so I finally gave in to Gods subtle hints and here I am. At the moment I am in the middle of making wedding plans and I hope to wed the lovely Julie Charnley later this year. I really love my job and I can’t wait to meet the rest of you guys so I hope to see you all soon. |

My name is Graeme
Ashwood. I
am 24 years old and I live in East Kilbride. I
attended Heathery Knowe Primary School and then Claremont High School.
The only things I liked in school were Music and Craft & Design.
These were things I had a real passion for, and even now music is a big part of my life. It started when I was about five, one Christmas I received a Fisher Price drum. From then I was hooked. I progressed in Drumming through school and playing at the Youth Fellowship in church. About two years ago I was given an opportunity to join a band called The Honey Thieves; my dream had come true. I became very busy with them playing gigs here, there and everywhere, even weekends in Germany; what an experience. Although I loved Craft & Design, I didn’t choose a career in woodwork, but I became a mechanic instead, spending four years at Park’s Garage, and four years at Arnold Clark’s. As much as I enjoyed fixing and repairing cars, I felt I didn’t want to do this as a long-term career. I also felt the garage atmosphere wasn’t for me because I feel that I am more of a people person. I spent a while working as a Youth Worker in my church, the King’s Centre, and this confirmed that I would like to work with people. I began looking into social care, and some of my friends already worked for Threshold, so I decided to give it a try. I have now been working for Threshold for nearly two months, and I love every bit of it. I am greatly blessed to be working with such great staff and service users. I am looking forward to continuing my career with Threshold. [top of page] |

Hi, my name is
Elaine, I joined the Threshold team 8
months
ago and I have never looked back. Working in one job since I was 17 it
was a
big decision for me to change, but one I have never regretted.
I was born in Bellshill on October 26th 1970 and have lived most of my life there, except for 7 years when I lived in Motherwell. At only a few months old I was diagnosed with a hole in my heart, which started 5 years of worry for my parents and meant a lot of hospital visits for me. When I wasn’t in hospital I went to church and grew up attending my weekly Girls Brigade nights, learning some skills that are still with me today. I became a Sunday school crèche helper at the age of 13 and enjoyed all aspects of interacting with the children. At the age of 15 I had open-heart surgery in the Royal Hospital in Glasgow and the rest lay in the Lord’s hands. After a few months of checkups I was a different person, I could do things that I couldn’t do before, such as going for a walk without being breathless. When I left school and got my first job making fishing rods I took on my first home also, sadly I left church for a few years, did some growing up and soon started to miss my church. Four years ago I decided to move back to Bellshill back to where I grew up. By now I was back at church but still felt unrewarded in my daily job. For some time I looked into other areas of work, but nothing felt right for me. My cousin and a friend had been working with Threshold for some time and had spoken of their job satisfaction. I decided I would love to know more about the project and as I say I have never looked back. I hope as time passes and I learn new things each day that the Lord is as proud of me for the work I am doing as I am of him. |
