We met at Hamilton Sheriff
Court on Saturday 7th May at 9.45am approximately, there was around 30
of us going, then headed onto our private bus at 10.15am to take us to
Glasgow Airport. We arrived there at around 11am to check-in. Our
flight was on time at 2.10pm (thank goodness) then we arrived at
Alicante at 6.10pm (Spanish time) the outside temperature was 25oC then
went on the coach to take us to our hotels, we split up into two hotels
one was the Venus and the other was the Presidente, I stayed in the
Venus. We arrived there at 7.30pm just in time for dinner and went for
a walk later on in the evening then went to bed after that.
On Sunday we went to the Old
Town Market just off the Promenade and had a look about, it was good.
we didn't do a lot so we just had a chill out day.
On Monday we all went on a day trip to Valencia which was around 2
hours drive from our hotel and went a walk around the shops and done a
spot of shopping, we were walking a lot and had to drink lots of water
to avoid us all getting dehydrated but it's good to keep fit, we went
back to our hotel for dinner, the day itself was a great success but it
was tiring once we got back for dinner, then we chilled out around our
hotel the rest of the evening.
On Tuesday we had a cheap day, we went down to the beach and went on
pedalos and I swam in the sea to cool myself down and that helped, went
back to our hotel and chilled out for the rest of the evening.
On Wednesday we split up into two groups, one group went to Terra
Mitica Theme Park and the other went to the Market and the Old Town. I
went to Terra Mitica with Peter and Richard and went on all the rides,
mostly rollercoasters as i love those rides, then went back to our
hotel for dinner, again it was tiring but it was good to see everyone
enjoying themselves.
On Thursday we went shopping to
the Old Town and bought gifts for our family again we had another chill
out day and didn't do a lot, I went out with Graeme McClure in the
evening and then later at night went back to hotel.
On Friday again we split up into two groups, one group went to Mundomar
and the Other went on a boat trip. I chose Mundomar which is quite
similar to a zoopark, I liked watching the Parrot, Dolphin and Sealion
shows, it was avery hot day then went back to our hotel for dinner and
then done some packing for going home tomorrow.
On Saturday Sadly, it was our last day, the coach came to pick us up at
around 3pm to take us to the airport we arrived at the airport at
around 4.30pm to check-in for our filight at 7.10pm and the flight was
on time (thank goodness again) and arrived back in Glasgow at around
9.10pm (English time) then went to get our baggage and onto our private
bus to take us back to Hamilton, we arrived back there at 10.30pm.
It was a tiring experience for staff and service users but it was good
to see everyone enjoy themselves. I would like to thank everyone for
organising this respite break and a big thank you for allowing us to
split into two hotels. Also thanks to Susan, Jack and Family and Hazel
Reid who gave us a great send off from Hamilton.
I'm hoping to come on the next respite abroad next year if you plan to
have one.

Palma
Nova 2004
After much
preparation and to
Susan and Hazel’s relief, we finally headed to Palma Nova Majorca at
around 8pm on Friday 7th May. The group of 27 (16 service users &
11 staff members) descended on Prestwick Airport for the 23.45 Spanair
flight to Palma Majorca. Much to our disappointment our flight was
delayed two and a half hours, which made for a long wait in the pretty
sparse surroundings of the airport. Finally the much anticipated
boarding call was made and we were eventually on our way.
After arriving at the
hotel at about half past eight,
it was definitely
time for a bit of shut eye. We awoke early in the afternoon raring to
go (donning shorts and t-shirt) and began to start enjoying the
Majorcan sun. Choices were made regarding activities which included
watching the old firm game on TV (some men can never miss watching a
game), sitting by the pool, or doing a spot of shopping..
During the week we went in
smaller groups to Porto Pi
(an indoor
shopping centre) Palma City and Santa Ponsa a small town near to Palma
Nova. A variety of activities were on offer such as swimming, pedaloes,
shopping (a firm favourite), ‘crazy’ Golf Fantasia and karaoke. All of
the activities were very much enjoyed.
We had our very own
Elvis and Shakin’ Stevens impersonator with us, Mr
Gary Keenan, although others soon took over the stage to perform too,
including Craig, Richard, Robert and Brian. Number one dancer was Craig
Maule alias John Travolta and comedy act Richard Brownlie as Billy
Connelly.
It was a tiring experience for the staff but was
extremely worthwhile
to see everyone enjoy themselves so much.
We left the hotel on the 14th for Palma airport where
much to our
relief the flight was on time. On arrival at Prestwick Airport we
discovered two cases were missing, although fortunately they arrived at
the airport the following morning and were hastily retrieved, as we
didn’t want Richard and Tommy to go commando.
Despite Susan’s request on Real Radio, Alan was first
up every morning
with a smile on his face at 6.30am.
We appreciated the hard work done by everyone who
supported this
respite break in any way. We would also like to thank Peter and Stuart,
and Susan, Jack and family who gave us a great send off from Hamilton.
It was also good to see Sandy, Craig, and Matthew at the airport to
wave us off on the Friday night.
I hear that plans are afoot for a further
trip
next
year. If you would
like details please contact Threshold office direct.
