PsiFS
Features
PsiFS allows files on a SIBO or EPOC device to be accessed just like files on a native disc. An icon is added to the left-hand side of the iconbar either for each drive that can be accessed on the remote device or for a single virtual drive that has the real drives represented by subdirectories. The iconbar icon changes to show the current status, and to indicate whether a SIBO or EPOC device is connected.

Other highlights include:
*   Filer windows can be configured to automatically open and close when a connection is established or lost.
*   Intelligent directory cacheing is implemented that attempts to read directory contents before they are required. This allows filer windows to open almost instantly.
*   File date stamps and attributes are preserved, allowing reliable backups of SIBO and EPOC devices to be performed.
*   Unlike other similar programs, PsiFS monitors changes to files on the remote device, and automatically refreshes any open filer windows.
*   The clock of EPOC devices can be automatically synchronized each time a connection is established.
*   Serial data can be copied to an attached printer. This allows a SIBO or EPOC device to print via a RISC OS computer without requiring any additional software (such as Andrew Sellor's S2P).

PsiFS can be easily configured from the desktop filer. Any available serial port and baud rate may be used, e.g. up to 115200 baud for an Acorn RiscPC connected to a Psion Series 5.

However, if the standard internal serial port is being used then no configuration is necessary to start using PsiFS; the correct baud rate is automatically identified.

The standard Psion Link Protocol (PLP) is used; there is no extra software to install or run on the remote machine. Both the SIBO and EPOC versions of the protocol are implemented, including full support for long filenames.

PsiFS is a full filing system, so all normal file operations work as expected. Files can be copied to and from SIBO or EPOC devices simply by dragging their icons between filer windows. Image filing systems are supported, so archives can be manipulated without first copying to a local harddisc.

A normal free space display can also be opened for any SIBO or EPOC device.

An easy to use incremental backup feature allows SIBO and EPOC devices to be backed up to tar files. Full details of the original files are preserved, including long filenames, date stamps and attributes. Any software that understands tar format files, such as SparkFS, may be used to restore either full backups or individual files. Comprehensive configuration options allow control over both the storage of previous versions and the interval between automatic backups.

The status of batteries in a connected EPOC device are continuously monitored. PsiFS can be configured to open a window warning when either the main or backup batteries require replacement.

Third party file format converters can be fully integrated, with optional automatic conversions transparently performed as files are loaded into applications. Example file format converters are included for various bitmap graphics formats (using !ChangeFSI) and for EPOC SIS files.

The clipboard of EPOC devices can be fully intergrated with the RISC OS global clipboard. This allows copying and pasting between the two environments with transparent conversion of data.

The "Printer via PC" print driver of EPOC devices can be used to print via any RISC OS print driver. Print jobs can also be exported as Draw files or plain text.
