- DioneSS AudioLogic has now returned to original Identity as DioneSS Playlist Editor!
The DioneSS project has been strolling on for over 7 years. It was never meant to be anything more than a free software utility, but thanks to demand and user feedback, it has
evolved into much more than this. The project has now reached a turning-point and its time for major change, the details of which are as follows:
- [DioneSS] AudioLogic has been superceded by [DioneSS] Playlist Editor v3.0b. Once Alpha status has been reached this is the last major update this project will see.
- The application is now Open Source. Developers are free to download the source code and modify it for their own use, or use it for educational/development purposes.
- The application is now Freeware licensed under GPL. All registration systems have been removed and the eSellerate contract has been terminated.
- All other products have been removed to simplify management. These, and their source code will be available by request.
- Donations (via PayPal) will now be used to fund hosting of the site and bandwidth for downloads.
- A new website is now online, however it will not be updated regularly.
- Support will still be provided via email however the Forum is now retired
- A helpfile/wiki is under development for the final version through user contribution.
I would like to thank everybody who registered this software since its conception. Without your valuable contributions the quality software that now resides here would not exist.
I have recieved over 1000 emails with regard feature requests and bug reports, and of these, around 60% have been taken forward into the development cycle. Furthermore I have
recieved many emails thanking me for such a great software product, and most of them state that this was exactly what they were looking for. I attribute this to user feedback being taken seriously and implemented speedily.
As of today, and since its conception 5 years ago, DioneSS Playlist Editor has been downloaded an estimated 2,200,000 times, cracked with patches/serials 23 times, been compiled over 4,500 times, and re-written from scratch 3 times (v3.0).
I estimate over 30,000,000,000 cups of coffee have been consumed during its lifecycle. The software has also inspired development, and contributed towards healthy competition within the wider software market, brought forward and pioneered exceptional user interface design and innovative ideas, and achieved what it set out to do -
provide advanced features, ease of use, and automation for those who are dis-satisfied with patronising and featureless software. WELL done DIONESS and its users, the project now enters stasis (for now)!
Thank you everyone!

The following is news archived from the past.
12/02/2005 - [DioneSS] AudioLogic under development...
Since many of our users require Networking support, and much more support for different file types, we are now undertaking the development of a new product. [DioneSS] Audio Logic will satisfy the need for music management tasks and we hope to include Batch style Encode/Decode support. We find many programs that will convert between one or two formats but none that integrate these functions together into a single application or allow batch processing. [DioneSS] Playlist Editor will be re-designed following this update to meet the needs of broadcasters and web-enabled multimedia applications. Both AudioLogic and Playlist Editor are being developed to support AC3, APE, MPP, MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, MP4, Monkey Audio, M3U, BM, and PLS formats. Extensive Encode/Decode and Imaging support is a major goal in the development to be carried out over the coming months.
Since the development of the new product will take some time, please be patient as we will not be updating the site for a while now until the new product is released. Please stay chooned, and note that it is a good time to submit your feature requests while we test and code these major updates.

It took a while but we have finally completed the mass-tagging application. The program allows you to mass-tag applying macros for a range of purposes.
- -Remove ID3v1/2 Tags.
- -Copy and Synchronize Tags.
- -Apply dynamic data such as mp3 folder to fields.
- -Format existing data in fields.
- -Intelligent string processing for parsing artist names from folders etc.
- -Full testing functions to simulate mass-tagging outcome.
- -Undo function to restore previous tags.
These are a few of the features. The program is still in its beta phase and is now included with the [DioneSS] Playlist Editor as a plug-in. The plugin will install automatically when you run it in standalone mode or as a plug-in in the playlist editor. The playlist editor however wont detect it the first time it is run after installation but it will the next time it is run, due to an initialization routine. Enjoy the new software and please report bugs if you find any. Enjoy.
15/10/2003 - [DioneSS] Playlist Editor v2.1 (Beta) Released...
After a great deal of development and enhancements the time has come to update the major increment with the addition of a host of updates. New features to be expected during this phase of development (2.1) include plug-in support for anything from cutting mp3's, new Wizards supporting DVD and advanced report generation. Additional functionality for the OGG Vorbis format is also expected during this development phase. Enjoy.
- Added support for "Send To" extensions in the installer and program command line startup. You can now right-click some MP3/OGG files in explorer and then click "Send To" to have them load into the playlist editor for instant playlist creation.
- Added support for get time info for VBR MP3 files. Previously these showed up as 0.00, patched this in ID3Tag Editor, Report Wizard, Main window, etc.
- The Rename files dialogue has been re-designed to be more user friendly.
- Added the option to "Remove numbers from filenames" as a renaming parameter. This is very useful if you wish to remove or re-apply track number info to the file.
- -Increased the "Renaming Rule" parameter length from 20 characters to 100. You can now add/remove/replace any string of words up to 100 characters long. This is ideal for files downloaded from newsgroups that have long filenames.
- -Added versioning system to configuration files such as "Report Settings" and "Rename Settings" to ensure compatibility. Note that the format for files in 2.1 is different to those in previous versions due to the changes mentioned.
- -Added option to "Restore last playlist at program startup", this was previously automatic without being switchable.
- -Added option to "open last playlist with Windows start" for those users who copied a shortcut to the tmp.m3u file to the Windows startup folder. This option starts playing your music when Windows starts for added comfort in front of your PC.
- -Various minor bugfixes carried out and more informative error reporting added.
- -Updated the initial first use dialogue to follow the same feel as the installer application and additional screen welcoming users after registration.
- -Improved registry handling code.
Notes: Because this is a major update, registered users will need to re-enter their registration information. Also older rename settings files are incompatible with the new version due to improvements listed above.
09/09/2003 - "DSSsimplemp3" ACTIVEX OCX Added...
Finally released DSSimplemp3, an ActiveX control [OCX] that can be used to read/write ID3V1 Tags from/to MP3 files. Also returns basic attributes such as size and can be used to update the file attributes [Read-Only etc..] for writing.
The component may also be used in the "Virtual" sense, where a filename need not be specified for the MP3. This allows you to create a virtual file system of MP3s with TAGS and Attributes in your application.
The OCX maybe used in any project that allows the use of OCX files, including VB, VC++, and VBA (Office) applications such as MS Access/Excel. This control is FREEWARE and the full source code is included. The download includes a sample project [ID3V1 TAG EDITOR].
05/09/2003 - Playlist Editor Update v2.0.115...
BOOKMARKING OF POINTS IN TIME WITHIN AN MP3 FINALLY HERE...
Many users requested a system in which certain points in time within an MP3 file can be remembered. This is useful for jumping to and remembering the position of a track in a SINGLE MIXED MP3 that contains a live-set or many tracks, or skipping an intro etc. We know of no other program that can do this at present.
The new system TPSI exploits the ID3V2 comment field to store data about your bookmarks with the MP3 file in the ID3 Tag making it fully portable and self-contained.
No longer will you have to search through a mix or live-set to find a position of a track using this system. We can also quite proudly GLOAT that this is the first of its kind and again we have pioneered another useful feature for MP3 archivists , DJ's and the like all thanks to user-feedback.
The new system currently only supports WinAmp and users of WinAmp 3 will have need to install the WINAMP 2 PLUGIN MANAGER that will soon be hosted in the support section with permission of its author.
To use, simply check the ID3V2 editor, click the TPSI tab and click ADD to add points in time within the MP3. This can be set to either manual, or it can actually update the clock position for adding while you browse in WINAMP.
Browse through the MP3 file and click "ADD" when you want to store that point in time. To retrieve the point in time click "GOTO" after selecting it, or Double click the point in the list.
There is NO LIMIT to the number of points in time that can be stored and be sure to UPDATE the ID3 TAG by clicking "save" in the "ID3 Editor" if you want to store the time positions permanently in that MP3 file.
Please DO NOT edit the "DSSPLE_tpsidata" comment that is created as this contains data used for the TPSI. If this is corrupted the program will remove it without harm. This is a beta feature addition so please send feedback if you find any bugs, enjoy!

31/07/2003 - Installer Package Update...
We have now updated the installer applications used with DioneSS applications and tools as many people reported the "CreateProcess" bug as frequently found when using the VB Package and Deploy Wizard to install applications. The INNO installer is now being used and must be commended as an excellent and free installer application. Any users who are having problems installing should now get the latest versions of our from THIS site that include the new installer. Thank you for your feedback. Mirror sites will be updated over the coming weeks.
17/07/2003 - Playlist Editor Update v2.0.103...
A few bug-fixes thanks to user feedback. [DioneSS] Playlist Editor [v2.0.103b] available for download. Note this is a BETA version. Please report bugs via the contact page.
- Bug-Fix in MP3-CDROM Wizard, Volume size calculation was error-prone.
- You can now Drag items around in the list by holding down the right mouse button and moving the mouse like in WinAmp's playlist editor. You must right-click over some text of list items to start a drag or the default selection box will appear. Multiple items can be moved around.
- Drag & Drop now supports items being added at the list insertion point rather than just the end of the playlist. Dropped files are not re-selected by user-request. Simply drop M3U's, Files/Folders on top of the item where they should be added.

- Bug-fix in report-generator logic
- Command-line fix on startup
04/06/2003 - New Products...
A new project has been initiated to develop a suite of OCX controls for developers. These will include:
- DSSfileinfo - A file information object that can be used to set/get virtually ALL available info from a file. This essentially acts as a FILE or FOLDER object that has some very user friendly methods, eliminating the masses of code needed in many VB/VC projects for file handling. This user friendly OCX cleans up many projects allowing the developer to focus on their application, rather than managing file I/O functions.
- DSSoggtag - An OCX for reading/writing comment tags on OGG-Vorbis files. With the introduction of MP4 ever nearing the masses we believe that the OGG-Vorbis compression method will take-off in a big way. The OGG-Vorbis project is open-source and offers better quality than MP3. MP4 is the next generation of media compression that will enforce (as many see) unwelcome anti-piracy techniques.
