About...

Dione Software Solutions was born in 1999 as a small programming project, the rationale to provide software and tools for a small creative community involved in the Electronic Arts Scene. Circa April, 2000, a variety of titles were presented for public release on CNETs download library. The feedback received and popularity spurred rapid growth, and as such, the main application (DioneSS Playlist Editor) became the main focus.

With over 300 downloads per week, and increased global exposure (through Magazines & Download Websites) the software became Shareware, in order to fund the increased development work and hosting costs required. Since 2000 and beyond, the software development roadmap has provoked inspirational user interface design, and been heavily reliant on user-feedback, whence maximising quality and usability.

Other Software titles initially released such as the Web Gallery Creator (an automated HTML generator that would tabulate images in a folder) have inspired entire markets for software (yes, DioneSS was the first to make and release such a program on CNET!), and novel user-interface and programming innovations, have allowed our users to do things with our software that cannot be done with anything else (e.g. Automatic Playlist Repair, Relative vs. Absolute Playlisting, etc.).

Since Dione Software Solutions is, and has always been, a non-profit making venture, the project has been successful in taking the risks to experiment with innovation, and as a result, has succeeded in competing with larger shareware companies. Our software is offered as Shareware, the revenue generated from your contributions is used to fund administration such as hosting, and continued development and research. Software developed under the name Dione Software Solutions has consistently received many awards, and its global profileration means we have lost track of who has it on there site, or which version they are listing.

We hope you enjoy using our software, and welcome all your feature suggestions. Its the user of the software that is the highest priority.

About the Software & Source Code

Dione Software Solutions Applications have been developed using Microsoft Visual Studio 6 (i.e. VB and VC++) and distributed using the INNO Setup Package. The applications have not been updated to implement .NET so cannot be compiled (without serious re-coding) using the latest version of Visual Studio. We also use a number of third party OCX controls, namely the wonderful Audiogenie OCX written and distributed by Stefan Tongi, and the Teebo Office Menu OCX for the office style menu.

The last major version Source code for Dione Software Solutions playlist Editor is available for download for registered users only. Packaged as a ZIP file this contains all code, forms, modules, graphical elements, setup scripts, and OCX controls required to successfully compile and run the software (only GPL). Installing the program from the setup will register the OCX controls used in the project.

The purpose of the source code being made available is to fulfill the following objectives:

The source code is NOT being made available to:

You may modify and copy/paste the code portions for your own use. You may NOT however distribute saleable copies of the software or use significant portions of the code in any COMMERCIAL project. Any attempt to redistribute the software or software modules within this package for commercial use will be followed up and challenged until it is removed and the necessary penalty issued.

On redistribution of the software or code portions you MUST put a reference to Dione Software Solutions in the code. You must get PERMISSION from the Author to redistribute by CONTACTING US with an outline of your proposals. Failure to do this is also a breach in the terms under which this source code is being made available. Under no circumstances will Dione Software Solutions be liable for any damage, data loss, or error caused by modifications to/or original portions of code distributed here.

If you FULLY understand ALL of the information above, you may proceed and download the Source Code.

Project Roadmap

Dione Software Solutions is now exploring new frontiers in media file management, through the aquisition of enhanced metadata (not just artist, title, etc.)

We aim to begin developing a new application in 2009, that puts this advanced metadata technology into the hands of our users. Updates on this project will be released as they fruitition.

The Author would like to thank everyone who has been, and is, involved in the project. Thank you.
