One to One Counselling

Where and When? How long will it take? Fee Code of Ethics and Practice My Qualifications and experience
One to one, face to face counselling can help you cope with a number of problems you may be encountering in your life. It is an opportunity for you to express thoughts and feelings about your personal difficulties in a non-judgmental atmosphere and look at ways of working through those difficulties. In working together in this way I would not be offering advice, but rather helping you to understand your life better and make changes which are right for you.
Perhaps you doubt that your issue is not 'important enough?
I believe that if something is causing you enough concern to have found this site and be reading this, then talking it through with someone neutral, in an accepting atmosphere may help.
Some common issues that are brought to counselling include low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, family, relationships, identity, sexuality, loss, stress, illness, the aftermath of abuse or other trauma.
The counselling work I offer mainly consists of talking but I have found using creative mediums such as drawing or using clay can help to explore an issue in ways that would be difficult if using only words. The emphasis in this work is not on what the finished product looks like, ie. not whether the picture or clay model is aesthetically pleasing. Some of the aspects we might focus on are - what the picture or model means to you or what the process of drawing or modelling it was like. However whether we used these alternate ways of expression would be up to you.
If you would like to know a bit more about counselling please read the page 'What is Counselling?'

Where and When

I am able to offer counselling in the city centre of Manchester, a 5 minute walk from Piccadilly station, on Oldham Street.
  I am available Monday's 9am - 7.30pm, Tuesday's to Friday's, 9am - 4.30pm
To arrange an appointment or for more information either email me or phone me on 07960 149364 (if you leave a message on my voice-mail I will get back to you as soon as possible)

How long will it take?

This can vary a great deal from person to person.  For some people four or five appointments are enough, whereas others feel they need ten, twenty and sometimes more. I would usually suggest that we meet weekly at the beginning.

Fees

I charge on a sliding scale from £45 to £25 for 1 hour, depending on how much you feel you are able to pay.

Counselling can sometimes be a difficult and painful process as you begin to explore what is troubling you. Therefore a commitment to the process may also be required, as counselling is not a quick fix.

Code of Ethics and Practise

I work according to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. More information can be found about this organisation by visiting their website, see the Links page for details.

My Qualifications and experience

I completed my professional training as a counsellor in obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from City College Manchester in 1999.
I have previously worked in the Manchester Metropolitan University Students counselling service and for Age concern.
