4. Orchid Lake
Birds on the water of this lake tend to be restricted to the normal Coot, Tufted Duck, Great-crested Grebe, Mute Swan and Moorhen though it is probably the best site, but still not reliable, for Ruddy Duck. There is strong evidence to suggest that they bred on this lake a few years back. Over the years the lake fringes and especially the marshy area between Orchid Pit and the Sailing Club Pit have produced some very good records. It is probably the best place for many of the woodland species and Marsh Warbler, Bearded Reedling, Bittern, Woodcock and Water Rail have been recorded. Strictly a lake for the birds rather than the birdwatchers with no access available.
