About LBFS

Who are we?

The Leighton Buzzard Festival Singers was formed in 1951, the year of the Festival of Britain. It is a choir for four voices (soprano, alto, tenor and bass). We normally perform two concerts each year in Leighton Buzzard, usually in May and November/December. We also perform at Summer fetes, dinners and weddings.

We rehearse every Monday evening during the school term from 7.45pm - 9.45pm. at Clipstone Brook Lower School, Brooklands Drive, Leighton Buzzard.

Our current membership is 68 singers.

What do we sing?

Mainly choral works, but our repertoire is varied. Recent concerts have included Bach’s Mass in B minor, Haydn’s The Seasons and Gounod’s Messe Solennelle. We also enjoy singing in our annual carol service. Click on the Concerts page to see more details of our recent performances.

Workshops

We have hosted four music workshops jointly with Making Music (formerly the National Federation of Music Societies). Three workshops have had the backing of the Association of British Choral Directors.

Overseas Tours

The Festival Singers have toured abroad on three occasions in recent years. In 2001, to mark our 50th anniversary, we travelled to France and sang at Notre Dame and La Madeleine in Paris and in Chartres cathedral. In October 2003, our destination was Salzburg, St. Gilgen and Bad Gastein in Austria. 2005 saw 95 singers and friends heading for Belgium, where we sang in Bruges, Brussels, Ypres and Mechelen. Social Events

We are a friendly choir, organising social activities throughout the year. These include Quiz Nights, Bring and Buy events, Barn Dances and Summer Garden Parties.
