Outside
Dark thoughts
Within
Sunshine to mock me
Brightness not for me

Bright light casts deep shadows
There I retreat
Bright light throws into stark relief
What I do not want to see

Can't close my eyes to myself
Brightness exposes the truth

Plans which came to nothing
Dreams which drifted away
Self-doubt turns to loathing
Nothing of worth remains

No sunlight disperses
The shadows within
