The Enemy Within

On days when your body betrays you
Controls how you feel, dictates what you do
You lose all perspective, your precious emotional balance
Trivial things upset you, assume highest importance

Forced to look at your life you despair
For all you see is emptiness, nothing's there
Without goal or purpose you exist,
And know once you've gone you will not be missed

You wake up crying
Knowing there's no point in trying
Because whenever you did in the past
Whatever you did did not last

You are alone without a single friend
All those you thought you had turned against you in the end
Who really understands what you're going through
What the enemy within is doing to you?

Boredom has killed your spirit
Your soul no longer fights its cage
Your life has no purpose, no merit
You're burnt out, empty even of rage

You've given up the fight for what you believed in
What you cared about and wished to preserve
Try to accept that like everything else, it has been;
It's over and gone, and no more than you deserve

You hope that as the cycle moves on
You'll regain some sense of your worth, dismiss the pain
But you know that something is gone
And things can never be the same again
