Beaky Match ReportsThese match reports were written by either players or spectators at our matches. They may or may not be an accurate reflection of the match, the only criteria for publication is a favourable mention for the web-site bloke. AC Beaconsfield 0 - 2 Chesterton Chavs, 9th September 2005, League, Coldhams Common, Cambridge, ©EdThe Beakies new season kicked off with much excitement generated by the sensational summer signing of Codsy from local rivals The (wrong side of the tracks) Dobblers. With a long history of debutants scoring on their debuts Codsy proved himself to be the new Michael Owen by failing to score on his debut. To be fair, the pressure was on Codsy to get off to a flying start, but with over-zealous flagging from the Chav's assistant referee he was denied the opportunity to join the goal scoring elite. Beaky players traditionally take their summer holiday when the football season starts, and before this match our defence looked as well populated as Joe Jordan's upper set of teeth. Midfield maestros Martin and Paddy were pulled back into the centre back positions and performed well against the Chav's attackers but this left Ali and new boy Jon with a heavy workload in midfield. Chesterton generally had better possession of the ball and had a couple of good chances saved but went ahead just before the interval with a well taken headed goal. The Beakies best chance came when Jon picked up the ball just outside his own penalty box and dribbled past half a dozen players but was finally thwarted in a one-on-one with the keeper. In the second half, Chesterton upped the tempo of the game - the luxury of substitutes - but the Beaky defended well and it was unfortunate when a goal was conceded directly from a corner. Frustration grew at our inability to spring Chesterton's offside trap but it was ironic when Chesterton's centre-forward was through on goal but sportingly picked the ball up when he heard the cries for offside despite the fact that no flag had been raised due to a full-back not in the immediate vicinity playing him onside. The Chavs played a good game of football on the pitch, it was just a shame that their linesman had his flag in the air most of the time. Pitch report: The going was good.
