How To Make A Basic VCD
You will need before anything the following tools:
- TMPGEnc 2.5 or higher (SHAREWARE) - Click HERE to download.
- Nero 6.x.x.x.x or higher (SHAREWARE) - Click HERE to download.
- G-SPOT Codec Finder (FREEWARE) - Click HERE to download.
1. First you need to find out what the frame rate of your avi is, the frame rate it runs at denotes which region the avi has been encoded to. Open up GSpot and drag & drop the avi into it and it will give you a load of information about the file, your looking for the FPS (frames per second):
The following frame rates denote that the avi has been encoded to the following regions:
23.976 fps - NTSC Film
27.9376 fps - NTSC
25 fps - PAL
2. Now open up TP and it should look like this:
3. You need to load in the template for the region that the avi was encoded to, so go to Load
and select the template that matches the frame rate of your avi then Open.
3. Now you've loaded in the template it's time to load in the avi, click on the Browse button and select your movie file.
4. You will now see that your avi file has been loaded into TP, by default the Output filename will be identical except with a mpg extension and will reside in the same folder as your original avi.
5. Check everything is where it should be and if your happy hit Start.
TP will start encoding the film and give you a rough estimate of how long this will take, depending on your pc speed it could take from 2-12 hours.
6. Once it's finished you will have an mpg file that is possibly double the size of your original avi file, you need to split it. In TP go to File -> MPEG Tools -> Merge & Cut.
In the Type dropdown select MPEG-1 Video-CD then click Add to load your mpg file and select the output filename, something like "Moviename VCD1.mpg". Once you've done that click on Edit.
Now move the slider to the end of the film so that you know how long it is, back to the middle and hit }. This has set the end of your first segment, go to the start and then hit { then OK. You can now hit Run and TP will chop out that segment and save it:
Now repeat the same process for the second half of the movie and you should have to mpg files each of which will fit on a CD, It's time to burn !
7. Open up Nero and select Video CD, uncheck the CD-i application box, set the region that you have encoded toand select New:
Then drag & drop your mpg file into the left hand side, Nero will check that it is a compliant VCD file. Once this has done select the burn icon:
Job Done...
And repeat again for the 2nd disk.
