| The
Project
The Rainbow Project is a voluntary organisation and a company limited
by guarantee which has been working with young people aged 16-25
years in Southampton since 1981. As well as providing accommodation
the Project also offers advice, information and support
services. Rainbow moved to it's present office premises in 1987
and is open to any young person who requires the Project's services.
Young people are encouraged to 'drop-in', talk to the Project
staff, seek advice, support and information and to use the office
resources if needed.
The Rainbow Project strives to be an anti-racist/anti-sexist
organisation. We believe that, in particular, Black and young
Asian people find it more difficult to obtain and keep accommodation
because of the racist/sexist attitudes and behavious of some landlords
and tenants. The Rainbow Project will not allow racist/sexist behaviour
in its accommodation.
Housing Stock
The Project currently manages five houses, mostly 3/4 beds and
offers temporary accommodation for approximately one year. We manage
two houses for young women, two for young men and one for young
women who are either pregnant or have one child.
Support
The Project offers a support service to residents and a floating
support service to ex-residents and other young people who are
referred.
