Despite being a very up market small town, famed for its private school, you could not get a more friendly down to earth service. Peg and Jean welcome you to their tea room in a building which dates back to the 17th century, although it has only been used as a tea room since 1965.
Being in the heart of Uppingham, the window seats provide an excellent vantage point. You really can watch the world go by, whilst sampling some of the delicious home cooked fare on the menu. Highly recommended is the home made soup, served with rolls fresh from the bakers next door. For a lighter afternoon snack, try the flapjack. However don't be deceived by the size of the piece, one slice may well fill you up.
The home made food, original features, and friendly service combine to make Baines Tea Room well worth a visit.
