Police and Churches Together (PACT) - in the Community

After the success of events such as Message 2000 in Manchester and Soul in the City in London, the Christian organisation 'City Links' launched a nationwide initiative 'Redeeming Our Communities' at the NEC in May 2006. About 7000 Christians met together to support the launch. It aims to work with churches, charities, the Police and local authorities to bring new hope to communities across the UK. This work continues with Hope 2008. The Christian Police Association is keen to encourage Police/Church partnerships. There are three activities a church can get involved in:

1) Pray for issues in the neighbourhood that are identified by the police and the community as needing attention.

2) Pray for local police officers & staff working in the community using the principles of 'Adopt A Cop'.

3) Get involved in practical outreach into the neighbourhood: Consider joining your local Joint Action Group, Area Committee and Neighbourhood Watch. Consider what facilities or events your church could provide. Consider supporting Street Pastors.

Partnerships like this around the UK have seen significant impact in the quality of life and reduction of crime. Useful sources of information can be found on our website under 'Prayer' and 'Links'. A local Police Officer could provide some items to pray for/get involved in (in a similar fashion to Neighbourhood Watch).
